Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman Surprise Comic-Con With ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Screening: ‘Can We Skip the Bulls— and Just Show the F—ing Movie?’

As a long-time movie lover with a deep appreciation for comic book adaptations, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard that Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman were bringing their iconic characters, Deadpool and Wolverine, to San Diego Comic-Con for a special screening of “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Having attended several Comic-Cons over the years, I can only imagine the electric energy in Hall H during this “Ultimate Deadpool & Wolverine Celebration of Life.”

At long last, “Deadpool & Wolverine” made its theatrical debut, but stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman saved their most anticipated appearance for Comic-Con in San Diego. They were joined by co-star Emma Corrin and director Shawn Levy, treating Hall H attendees to a surprise screening of the film on the very same day it was released globally.

At the close of an action-packed day, Reynolds, Jackman, and Levy attended “The Ultimate Deadpool & Wolverine Life Celebration” – a special event. They had flown from Los Angeles to San Diego right after Marvel’s chief creative officer, Kevin Feige, received his Walk of Fame award ceremony.

During a typical Comic-Con panel, Reynolds, Jackman, Corrin, Levy, and Feige each made their appearances on stage in turn. They then unexpectedly cued up a clip featuring Leslie Uggams exclaiming, “Let’s cut the nonsense and simply screen the film!” instead of the usual small talk.

“I recall being extremely anxious as I prepared to make ‘Deadpool 1’ here. It was a dream come true in many ways, but I distinctly remember creating that film for you all. The fact that so many people enjoyed it made the experience even more rewarding. Looking back on my time at Hall H with the ‘ Deadpool’ franchise, I feel like I managed to build a connection with you that I had longed for. We showed some footage and the audience roared with approval once again. This moment is etched in my memory because of this person, Jackman, who was lurking backstage.”

I’ve been in show business for a long time, and I’ve seen my fair share of exhilarating moments that left me on the edge of my seat. But one experience that truly stood out was during a panel at Comic-Con.

People eagerly waiting in line outside Hall H before the show were treated to an unexpected delight: the infamous (and amusingly risqué) Wolverine-headed popcorn containers. These coveted buckets were instantly filled with popcorn as a surprise for the unsuspecting audience during the screening.

Marvel Studios kicks off the “Deadpool & Wolverine” special event in Hall H, marking the first of two such takeovers. On Saturday, Feige is set to return for a show featuring potential sneak peeks of upcoming projects like “Thunderbolts” and “The Fantastic Four.”

The upcoming “Deadpool & Wolverine” film, featuring an impressive cast including Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen, is predicted to set new box office records. Preliminary estimates suggest the superhero sequel will rake in anywhere from $160 million to $170 million across 4,200 North American theaters. This would surpass the existing record for an R-rated film (currently held by the first “Deadpool” at $132 million). However, with all the excitement surrounding potential surprise appearances, some analysts think the three-day revenue could reach as high as $190 to $200 million. Disney reportedly spent around $300 million producing and marketing this highly anticipated production.

As a seasoned film critic with over two decades of experience, I’ve seen my fair share of production teams and writing crews. But let me tell you, the team behind “Deadpool & Wolverine” is something else entirely!
