Spoilers Don't Ruin Marvel Movies, Says Kevin Feige

As a dedicated fan of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I wholeheartedly agree with Kevin Feige‘s perspective on spoilers. Having grown up watching Marvel comics and movies, I understand the excitement and anticipation that comes with waiting for new releases. The element of surprise is an integral part of the experience, and knowing every plot twist beforehand takes away from the thrill of sitting in a theater filled with fellow fans.

As a long-time fan of Marvel movies, I’ve grown accustomed to the thrill of anticipation leading up to the release of each new film. The excitement is palpable when Deadpool and Wolverine hit theaters this week. But oh boy, have things been challenging!

Feige shared with Coming Soon during an interview that keeping secrets is quite challenging, if not impossible in today’s world. However, I’ve come to appreciate the value of secrecy, he continued. The real reason we want to keep things hidden is to preserve the element of surprise for the audience. So, when they watch a movie filled with other people, they can experience the thrill of discovering something new for the very first time.

Feige argued that people’s prior beliefs about spoilers become insignificant when they’re in the cinema, sharing the experience with an engaged audience.

If the movie and its key moments turn out successfully, Feige assured, it doesn’t significantly matter if these moments are kept as surprises or not. They will still be effective 99% of the time, provided they are skillfully integrated into cinematic experiences. This is what gives him peace of mind even when plot twists are exposed.

On July 25, prior to the theatrical release of Deadpool and Wolverine on July 26, Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and director Shawn Levy will hold a panel discussion about these characters at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H.
