Worker Dies by Suicide at Atlanta’s Trilith Studios

As a follower of the film industry and someone who has worked on various productions in Atlanta for several years, I am deeply saddened and shocked by the news of a worker taking their own life at Trilith Studios. The suicide is a grim reminder of the mental health challenges that many people face, especially those working in high-stress industries like film production.

On Wednesday morning, a Trilith Studios employee in Atlanta tragically ended their own life, as reported by local law enforcement.

I came across shocking news this morning as I heard from Captain Austin Dunn of the Fayetteville Police Department that an officer discovered a worker in a vehicle with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The unfortunate incident was reported at 6:47 a.m.

In a statement, Dunn shared that the investigation didn’t suggest any wrongdoing or connection to current studio ventures based on the information uncovered.

Word got around among film crews in Atlanta, a city known for its high number of Hollywood productions, about an unidentified worker causing a stir. While some crew members recognized him as a Teamster, this wasn’t definitively established. The police, however, referred to him as a “contractor.”

A Teamster business agent based in Atlanta, who I contacted over the phone, declined to make a comment “for now.”

Nestled close to the outskirts of Atlanta’s airport, Trilith spans over a thousand acres and is made up of soundstages, workplaces, offices, and backlots, making it the largest studio complex in the country built specifically for this purpose. Previously named Pinewood Atlanta Studios, Trilith has become the base for numerous Marvel productions such as “WandaVision” and “Loki,” as well as films like “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.”

In recent times, we have seen major releases such as “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and DC’s “Black Adam,” along with Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis.” On Wednesday, no Marvel films were being shot.

Trilith is also home to live-audience shows like the latest iteration of “Family Feud.”

A representative from Trilith was slow to provide a response after being asked for a comment. Likewise, the coroner in Fayette County chose not to make any remarks in response to the same query.
