‘Deadpool’ (2016) Recap

In 2016’s “Deadpool,” audiences were introduced to Ryan Reynolds’ character, Wade Wilson, who was once a member of the Special Forces but later became a mercenary. Due to being diagnosed with a terminal illness, Wade opted for an experimental treatment led by Francis Freeman, also known as Ajax (Ed Skrein). Instead of curing his cancer, this procedure left him disfigured yet endowed with extraordinary healing powers and a warped sense of humor. Adopting the persona of Deadpool, Wade embarked on a mission to confront Freeman and engaged in an epic showdown aboard a defunct aircraft carrier in the film’s final scene.

Using the powers of Colossus (Stefan Kapičić) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Deadpool manages to overcome Ajax and ends up rejoining his lover Vanessa (Morena Baccarin). He embraces his identity as an antihero, hoping that this new chapter in his life will be peaceful. Fingers crossed for no unexpected complications!

‘Deadpool 2’ (2018) Recap

In the 2018 continuation, the story begins with a disastrous turn of events. The movie initiates with Vanessa meeting her unfortunate end at the hands of a ruthless mob boss – on their anniversary, making it even more heartbreaking. This leaves our beloved anti-hero in deep sorrow and self-destructive behavior following his girlfriend’s demise. To honor her memory, he makes the decision to become an official member of the X-Men. During their initial assignment, they encounter Russell (Julian Dennison), a young mutant who is being held against his will at a “Mutant Re-Education Center.”

Russell endures both mental and physical mistreatment from the school’s principal. After managing to leave the educational institution, he becomes determined to take violent revenge against the abuser. This act sets off a chain of events that ultimately brings Cable (Josh Brolin), a mutant with the ability to travel through time, onto the scene.

As a devoted cinema-goer, I was utterly astounded when I discovered that Russell’s grisly act of killing the headmaster served as the ignition for his transformation into a ruthless serial killer. This chilling revelation meant that the lives of Cable’s loved ones were at stake. Determined to thwart this grim future, Cable resolved to journey back in time and put an end to Russell before he could claim his first victim.

At the orphanage, Deadpool, Cable, and X-Force’s last members face off against Russell and the colossal Juggernaut (Reynolds). This confrontation results in an extraordinary battle with high stakes. In the heat of the fight, Deadpool makes the ultimate sacrifice to protect Russell, preventing him from turning into a murderer. Subsequently, Cable utilizes his time-travel gadget to return and rescue Wade, generating a fresh timeline where Vanessa is still alive.

At the close of the movie, Deadpool, Vanessa, and their companions are united. In this alternate reality, Wade discovers the value of family and self-sacrifice, potentially setting the stage for encounters with more Marvel Universe personas in the future.

In simple terms, the upcoming movie is the 34th installment within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and acts as a follow-up to “Deadpool 2.” Based on trailer previews, this adult-themed superhero film introduces Deadpool into the MCU. He gets abducted by the Time Variance Authority, a group managing the multiverse from “Loki,” and suddenly finds himself among the Avengers. As a longtime fan of Wolverine and the X-Men, I’ve followed the adventures of Jackman’s iconic character through thick and thin. The emotional ending of “Logan,” where he sacrificed himself for his clone daughter Laura, left me teary-eyed and feeling that we had seen the last of the clawed hero.
