Solo Leveling Reveals Beru’s True Feelings About Jinwoo in New Official Art

A recent art preview for an upcoming release has revealed some fascinating new backstory details about Sung Jinwoo’s favorite Shadow Soldier.

The upcoming game, Solo Leveling: Karma, will reveal a brand new story about Jinwoo’s 27-year battle against the Monarchs, continuing the events of the original light novel. It’s designed to expand the series’ lore while staying true to the author Chugong’s original ideas. Players can expect to learn more about familiar characters like Beru, the former Ant King who serves as a key soldier in Jinwoo’s army.

The mobile game Solo Leveling: Karma recently revealed the official design for the character Beru, and shared details about her past that confirm a long-held fan theory.

Solo Leveling: Karma’s First-Look Reveal for Beru Confirms His Love for Jinwoo Is Genuine

A new design for the game Solo Leveling: Karma was revealed on the game’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. The image features a Marshall Rank Soldier in a fighting stance, highlighted by a distinctive purple aura. The accompanying text describes the character as a fearsome enemy who defeated even the strongest S Rank Hunters, and a steadfastly loyal servant to his leader.

The image explores Beru’s history as the Ant King, and even explains how his feelings for Sung Jinwoo grew. It states that he started to develop emotions as he spent time with Jinwoo and was influenced by him. While Beru’s strong obsession with Jinwoo is well-known to fans, this new backstory offers some interesting and unique details about its origins.

All of Jinwoo’s Shadow Soldiers must obey him, but Beru feels a more genuine connection. The story has shown before that some characters were made to love Jinwoo against their will. For instance, in the ending, a character was overcome with emotion and cried upon seeing Jinwoo, even though he’d been reborn into a different life and wasn’t one of Jinwoo’s soldiers anymore.

In the continuation of the story, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, Hwang Dongsoo becomes furious with Jinwoo when his past memories return. He realizes he was compelled to love someone he secretly hated. Being a Shadow Soldier in Jinwoo’s army means being both spiritually and emotionally tied to him, even forced to feel affection. This makes Beru unique—she would have remained loyal to Jinwoo even without the compulsion.

Solo Leveling: Karma Is Already Adding to the Deeper Lore of the Franchise

Beru only values strength, as he was specifically created by the Ant Queen to be the most powerful. Originally, this made him resent Jinwoo during their fight, but the new backstory in Solo Leveling: Karma shows how his animosity eventually blossomed into real affection.

The new backstory in Solo Leveling: Karma sheds light on how Beru retained his position as a Shadow Soldier even after the timeline was reset. Fans previously thought he wasn’t alive during the ten years before the story began, which is where the new timeline started. However, Karma reveals that Beru’s loyalty to his king is so strong that he remains a Shadow Soldier ‘eternally,’ even after time is reset.

This suggests Beru’s decision to stay with his master is important to the story. With this new artwork and background information, Solo Leveling: Karma is already adding to the established story of the Solo Leveling universe in surprising ways. But that’s not the only reason fans of Solo Leveling are excited for Karma to come out later this year.

In 2025, it was revealed that the animated visuals in the video were created by A-1 Pictures, the studio known for the Solo Leveling anime. Since there’s currently no news about a third season of the Solo Leveling anime, Solo Leveling: Karma appears to be the only new Solo Leveling animated content fans can expect in the near future.

I’m really excited about everything happening with the Solo Leveling universe right now! It’s fantastic to see the IP staying so strong. We’ve got Karma coming up soon, and Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive is constantly giving us fresh content with new updates and one-shot manhwa. And the coolest part? They just added Sung Jinwoo, Cha Haein, and Igris as skins in a super popular battle royale game – it’s awesome!

Solo Leveling: Karma will be released in the second half of 2026 for iOS, Android and PC.
