As an admirer of the dynamic and diverse world of screenwriting, I am thrilled to witness the upcoming Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) board of directors election. This esteemed group of individuals plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of our industry and advocating for the rights and interests of writers.
Eighteen individuals have been announced by the Writers Guild of America West as contenders for positions on the guild’s governing body.
Next month, from September 5th to the 24th, is when the election will take place. On August 30th, the necessary voting materials will be given out to guild members.
Thirteen new applicants and five current members are running for two-year positions at WGA West. According to the organization’s regulations, the list of candidates is arranged randomly.

As a movie lover and follower of the entertainment industry, I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming board elections at the writers guild. The union, which staged a lengthy 148-day strike last year, will be closely monitored for any emerging leaders of the next generation. In the previous election, veteran showrunner Meredith Stiehm was re-elected to her second term as WGA West president. I can’t wait to see who will step up and lead the charge for the writers’ community this time around.
