Highly Anticipated Fortress-Building Strategy Appeals to Players on Steam, But Cataclismo's Activity Results Are Far From Impressive

As a seasoned gamer with over a decade of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of game launches, some successful and others not so much. The release of Cataclismo, a strategy game that promises an enticing blend of city building and tower defense elements, piqued my interest from the moment I heard about it.

Yesterday afternoon, the early access version of Cataclismo, an engaging blend of city construction and tower defense gameplay, became available on Steam. This long-anticipated release drew great interest, making it noteworthy to discuss the events surrounding its debut.

  1. The game was warmly received on Steam. At the time of writing, it has 166 reviews, 95% of which praise Catalismo.
  2. Players praise the gameplay and atmosphere. The game has been described in several reviews as a successful advancement of features seen in games like They Are Billions and Age of Darkness: Final Stand. The building system also receives good reviews, within which we freely assemble structures from small bricks, just like with LEGO. Additionally, the extensive content (for early access) is praised.
  3. The activity results are worse, though. The record on the premiere day is 2552 players playing simultaneously. That’s a decent number for this category, but expectations were definitely higher – especially considering that the game on wishlists on Steam has more than 300,000 people.

While it was unlikely that Manor Lords, with its record-breaking 173,000 concurrent players, would be surpassed, Norland, which had been released a week prior by the same publisher, boasted a notable peak of 11,000 simultaneous players. Achieving such a player count could be considered a realistic goal.

Some gamers have yet to explore the full potential of “Cataclismo” since its launch on Monday. We’ll revisit this discussion following the upcoming weekend for further insights into the game’s performance on Steam.

As a passionate gamer, I’m excited to share that I’ve recently discovered “Cataclysmo,” an intriguing new game exclusively available on PC.
