As a seasoned movie buff with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen it all – from the most epic action sequences to the most heart-wrenching dramas. But nothing quite prepared me for Keanu Reeves’ latest mishap on the set of “Good Fortune.”
During an appearance on “The Late Show,” Keanu Reeves shared that his kneecap had broken like a crisp potato chip while filming for the upcoming comedy “Good Fortune.” He stars in this project alongside Aziz Ansari and Seth Rogen. While shooting, pictures emerged of Reeves using crutches on set.
“During a filming session with Aziz Ansari and Seth Rogen, we found ourselves in a chilly cold plunge. I enjoyed the experience, standing there despite the cold, and once we completed the scene, have you ever experienced that shivering sensation when cold? I put on my bathing suit and towel, covering my head, and performed the cold shuffle.”
In this carpeted room, I slipped unexpectedly as if doing the cold shuffle. Suddenly, there was a hidden pocket where my foot got stuck during the dance, causing me to lose balance and fall. My arms tried to break the fall but my knee, injured and unstable, gave way instead. It hit the ground hard, resulting in a cracked kneecap.
I originally assumed I wasn’t hurt, but then my knee suddenly swelled up and I knew something was amiss. As an action movie icon known for films like “The Matrix” trilogy and “Speed,” I joked about the injury, saying, “Comedy’s a real challenge for me.”
At CinemaCon this year, I commended Reeves for his tenacity after he sustained a knee injury just fifteen days into filming our comedy. Despite the setback, he bravely soldiered on and completed the shooting, truly embodying the spirit of a trooper.
“He filmed most parts but refused to dance salsa in certain scenes, Ansari shared. Keanu was eager, exclaiming, ‘I’ll do it!’ However, we reassured him, ‘Keanu, please be patient. We’ll film the salsa dancing once your knee has fully recovered.'”
Lionsgate is set to disseminate the film “Good Fortune,” but as of now, a release date has not been announced. You can view Colbert’s entire interview on “The Late Show” in the video below.
