“Fight Night” is inspired by the iHeart true-crime podcast of the same title. This drama series takes place in Atlanta during the late 1970s, specifically the days leading up to Muhammad Ali’s return fight against Jerry Quarry. The show’s tagline reads:
As a cinephile, I’d put it this way: I was thrilled when the notorious hustler Chicken Man (Hart) threw an extravagant afterparty for his victory in the fight, inviting Atlanta’s elite. But the night took an unexpected turn, becoming the scene of the city’s most daring heist by the criminal underworld. With the authorities on my tail, I’m determined to prove my innocence. My greatest challenge? Convincing my long-standing adversary, J.D. Hudson (Cheadle), a pioneering Black detective in Atlanta’s desegregated police force, who is hell-bent on bringing those responsible to justice.
Beginning September 5th, Peacock will debut the new series. Shaye Ogbonna is its creator, while Ogbonna and Jason Horwitch share the role of showrunner. Hart, along with Ogbonna, Horwitch, Bryan Smiley, and Mike Stein from Hartbeat Productions, serve as executive producers. Additionally, Will Packer and Sabrina Wind from Will Packer Media, Conal Byrne and Carrie Lieberman from iHeartPodcasts, Jeff Keating from Doghouse Pictures, and Lars Jacobson, Erika L. Johnson, and Mike Daniels are also executive producers. Craig Brewer, who directed four episodes, is another executive producer. Tiffany Brown and Kenny Burns from Hartbeat Productions co-executive produce. UTV produces the show.
