MultiVersus Dev Player First Games Acquired By WB Games

As a long-time fan of MultiVersus and following the gaming industry closely, I am thrilled to hear that Warner Bros. Games has officially acquired Player First Games, the talented studio behind this fantastic free-to-play platform fighter game. The news comes during a time when numerous studios and publishers have reported layoffs, so it’s heartening to see new developments in the gaming community.

Warner Bros. Games, the publisher, has announced the purchase of Player First Games, creators of MultiVersus, according to Variety’s earlier report. The acquisition follows Player First Games’ announcement of new content for their free-to-play platform fighter game, MultiVersus, on July 23, 2024. The studio subsequently shared on their social media channels that they would be entering maintenance mode during this time.

During EVO 2022’s livestream last weekend, MultiVersus’ developer unveiled fresh content coming to their free-to-play platform fighter game. The second season of MultiVersus will debut on consoles and PCs this month, bringing two new characters – Beetlejuice and Samurai Jack – into the roster, as well as introducing a novel gameplay mode to the game.

MultiVersus Dev Player First Games Acquired By WB Games

As a seasoned video game industry observer with over a decade of experience, I’ve witnessed numerous shifts and changes within the landscape of gaming studios and publishers. This year alone, we’ve seen layoffs at some of the biggest names in the business, such as Eidos-Montréal, Microsoft, Riot Games, Sega of America, and Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Based on a announcement from WB Games president David Haddad, “We’ve collaborated with Player First Games for quite some time now to develop and release ‘MultiVersus.’ We’re thrilled to have this innovative group join Warner Bros. Games, expanding our in-house development talents.”

Tony Huynh, co-founder of Player First Games, shared the same viewpoint. He expressed his enthusiasm about the ongoing collaboration between their team and WB Games after the acquisition, believing it to be beneficial for MultiVersus as a whole. “We’re thrilled to become part of the Warner Bros. Games community,” Huynh said. “This union is expected to bring significant improvements to the MultiVersus gaming experience. With our development squad closely working alongside the publisher, we can optimally cater to players’ needs.”
