‘Joker 2’ New Trailer: Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix Sing, Dance and Create Absolute Chaos in ‘Folie à Deux’ Sequel

As a dedicated movie enthusiast with a deep appreciation for thought-provoking and innovative films, I am beyond excited about the upcoming release of “Joker: Folie à Deux,” starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. The first installment was a groundbreaking masterpiece that left an indelible mark on both critics and audiences alike, winning numerous accolades including for Phoenix’s brilliant performance and Hildur Guðnadóttir’s original score.

As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga are set to bring chaos to life once again in the new trailer for “Joker: Folie à Deux,” the highly-anticipated sequel to “Joker” (2019) produced by Warner Bros. and DC. This captivating follow-up is scheduled to hit theaters on October 4, 2024. The film will make its world premiere in competition at the esteemed Venice Film Festival before its official release – just as the first movie did back in 2019, where it proudly claimed the coveted Golden Lion award.

I was absolutely blown away by the first “Joker” movie, which turned out to be both a critical and commercial hit. It earned 11 Oscar nominations, with Joaquin Phoenix taking home the best actor award and Hildur Guðnadóttir winning for original score. This film even broke records as the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever made. I’m thrilled to share that the sequel is on its way, with Phoenix returning to his iconic role and Lady Gaga joining the cast as Harley Quinn. Their sinister escapades are said to mostly unfold within the walls of Arkham Asylum.

In “Joker: Folie à Deux,” Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey join the cast as supporting actors, with Zazie Beetz reprising her role as Sophie from the initial film. The upcoming production is rumored to be a musical, showcasing Phoenix’s eccentric dancing from the earlier movie even more extensively.

Concerning the musical aspects of the film, Beetz shared with EbMaster her perspective: “I believe listeners will be taken aback. The music isn’t going to be what people assume. We all find ways to musically express and dance in our daily lives. I think it will fit perfectly.”

The upcoming “Joker: Folie à Deux” film from DC Studios, led by co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, will not be connected to their other projects such as “Superman.” Instead, it will have its own distinct storyline. Similarly, Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II” will also tell a standalone tale that is independent from these films. Lady Gaga’s portrayal of Harley Quinn in “Joker: Folie à Deux” will differ from Margot Robbie’s depiction in “Birds of Prey” and “The Suicide Squad.” Additionally, Kaley Cuoco’s Harley Quinn character from the Max series will exist separately as well.

Todd Phillips is back as the director for “Joker: Folie à Deux.” He collaborated with Scott Silver on the screenplay and also produced the movie in partnership with Bradley Cooper.
