As a longtime admirer of Aaron Sorkin’s brilliant storytelling and insightful political commentary, I was intrigued when I heard about his recent suggestion for the Democratic Party to nominate Mitt Romney as their presidential candidate in 2024. Sorkin’s perspective, as expressed in his op-ed published by The New York Times, resonated with me due to his unique and thought-provoking take on the current political climate.
Aaron Sorkin is now of the opinion that the Democratic Party shouldn’t nominate Republican Senator Mitt Romney as their presidential candidate for the 2024 election.
On Sundays past, an opinion piece penned by Sorkin appeared in The New York Times. In it, the “West Wing” mastermind proposed that the Democratic Party consider choosing a Republican contender for the upcoming November election to dethrone Donald Trump.
“At their convention next month, the Democrats should nominate Mitt Romney,” Sorkin wrote.
After President Joe Biden announced that he was withdrawing from the presidential race, Sorkin changed his tune – or as he described it in his opinion piece, he abandoned his proposal to the writers’ room. He also openly supported Vice President Kamala Harris in her bid for the White House.
“I’ve changed my mind. I now support Harris for America. Please share this on your Twitter, Josh,” Sorkin posted on Sunday. His publicist, Jodie Oriol, verified the authenticity of the statement.
In his opinion piece for The New York Times, Sorkin expressed that if Romney became the Democratic presidential nominee, it would serve as a compelling message to prevent an unstable person from gaining control.
Donald Trump or someone else. The “someone else” only needs to earn enough votes from various American groups to prevent Trump from reaching the required number of electoral votes to regain the presidency.
So far, Harris hasn’t been contested for the Democratic nomination, which will be officially determined at the August 19th convention in Chicago.
