Dark and Darker alternative Dungeonborne enters early access with no drama, just giant rats

As a seasoned gamer with over a decade of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of similar games and the drama that can come with them. When Dungeonborne was announced for Early Access release, I couldn’t help but draw comparisons to Dark and Darker, a game that made headlines last year due to its controversial origins.

On July 19, 2024, Dungeonborne became available for Early Access, enabling fans to access and experiment with the game prior to its final release. This stage offers developers valuable feedback from players, allowing them to identify and rectify any issues, as well as generating revenue through game sales or additional in-game purchases.

As a longtime gamer with a deep appreciation for first-person shooter (FPS) dungeon games, I can’t help but notice the striking resemblance between Dungeonborne and Dark and Darker. Having played Dark and Darker extensively since its release, I’ve become quite attached to its intricate dungeons and captivating gameplay. However, recent news has cast a shadow over my enjoyment of this title.

Back in 2023, I was taken aback when the police stormed Ironmace’s offices out of the blue. Consequently, my beloved game went poof from Steam and vanished into thin air. But here’s a silver lining: since then, Dark and Darker fans have been granted another chance to play it, starting from June 7, 2024.

The differences between Dungeonborne and Dark and Darker

As a long-time fan of RPG games, I’ve played my fair share of titles that transport players to fantastical worlds filled with dungeons, monsters, and epic adventures. Two such games that have recently caught my attention are Dungeonborne and Dark and Darker. At first glance, these games may seem similar, as they belong to the same genre and feature comparable graphics and playstyles.

Currently in Dungeonborne, as you progress and level up your character, you gain access to new class-specific abilities. In contrast to Dark and Darker, the game utilizes a traditional mana system for spellcasting instead of limiting casts.

As a gamer, I can tell you that when comparing Dungeonborne to its counterpart, I personally find the graphics in Dungeonborne more appealing. Given its relatively recent release, this comes as no surprise to me. However, it’s important to note that better graphics aren’t always a given for newer games.

In Jackfrag’s Dungeonborne gameplay video on YouTube, you’ll encounter large rats that can be defeated with your sword or magically.

Currently, there are 24,673 active users on Dungeonborne. This is fewer than Dark and Darker’s 29,368, but let’s be patient and give Dungeonborne some time to grow its player base. After all, its statistics are on the upswing.
