As a seasoned cinephile with a soft spot for animated films and a deep appreciation for classic literature, I am thrilled to pieces by the news that Emilia Clarke, Gerard Butler, and Simone Ashley are lending their voices to “The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland.” The prospect of these talented actors breathing life into the beloved characters from Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” and Clement Clarke Moore’s “Twas the Night Before Christmas” is a dream come true.
Emilia Clarke, Gerard Butler, and Simone Ashley will voice act in the forthcoming animated musical “A Wonderland Christmas Eve.”
I had the pleasure of working on a film production brought to life by Universal Pictures Content Group and Lupus Films. The storyline for this captivating project was inspired by Carys Bexington’s bestselling book. Her ingenious work cleverly blends two beloved classics: Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” and Clement Clarke Moore’s poem, famously known as “A Visit From St Nicholas” or “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Carys’ illustrative masterpiece, graced with Kate Hindley’s artistic touch, is published by Macmillan.
I’m thrilled to share that Gerard Butler from “Greenland” is going to lend his voice for the role of St. Nick, while the enchanting Emilia Clarke from “Game of Thrones” has been cast as the Queen of Hearts, and the captivating Simone Ashley from “Bridgerton” will bring Alice to life in this upcoming production.
Peter Baynton, the director of the Oscar-winning animated short film “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse,” is currently leading the project. Meanwhile, Sara Daddy is responsible for penning the screenplay, which features rhyming couplets throughout. Guy Chambers and Amy Wadge contribute original music and lyrics to the production.
In the story “The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland,” Santa Claus experiences an exciting journey through the rabbit hole. There, he encounters various whimsical characters with unique twists. The Mad Hatter is now a high-fashion host of tea parties who adores reindeers. The White Rabbit becomes a lovable and forgetful character. The Queen of Hearts transforms into a Scrooge-like figure who dislikes tinsel, accompanied by her grumpy sidekick, the Cheshire Cat. Alice, with her kindness, assists Santa Claus in saving Christmas.
Universal Pictures Content Group and Lupus Films have worked together before on the charming film adaptations of “Mog’s Christmas” and “The Tiger Who Came to Tea.”
Ruth Fielding and Camilla Deakin are the producers for Lupus Films. Helen Parker, an executive at Universal Pictures Content Group, is another producer, joined by Butler and Alan Siegel from G-BASE, and Clarke from Magical Thinking Pictures.)
“Fielding expressed great pleasure in assembling this imaginative group and infusing Lupus Films’ animated flair into the project. The result is an enchanting blend of quirky characters, a stellar voice cast, and catchy music. This delightful, whimsical tale is perfect for entertaining the entire family during the festive season.”
Parker commented: “It’s been a wonderful voyage for me to breathe life into this classic, enchanting tale. From designing the realms of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘The Night Before Christmas,’ to assembling our talented cast to give voice to these cherished storybook characters, the process has been both inspiring and heartfelt.”
