Winona Ryder Had A Beetlejuice 2 Clause In Her Stranger Things Contract

As a long-time gamer and avid movie fan, I can’t help but be thrilled by the news that Winona Ryder has been pursuing a Beetlejuice sequel for decades. I remember watching the original film as a child and being captivated by Ryder’s performance as Lydia Deetz. Her unique ability to see and communicate with the dead made her one of my favorite characters in the ’80s cinematic universe.

For several decades, Winona Ryder, the initial Beetlejuice actress, has held discussions with director Tim Burton regarding a potential sequel to the popular film. It seems that the idea of a Beetlejuice follow-up has long intrigued Ryder. Her contract for Stranger Things even contained a clause enabling her to film Beetlejuice 2 if it came to fruition.

During that period, Tim Burton and I were discussing the possibility of a Beetlejuice sequel. Over the past 15 years, we had sporadically attempted to make it happen, but only when all factors aligned would it come to fruition. At my initial meeting with the Duffer Brothers, I expressed my hope that if Beetlejuice 2 came to pass, they would allow me to be involved. They granted me this request. Fortunately, everything fell into place and it transpired just as I had requested. My participation in the project was a non-negotiable condition for me.

Additionally, Ryder shared that she was unfamiliar with Netflix and streaming platforms when she joined “Stranger Things.” Now, after five seasons spanning a decade, she continues to be a part of the show.

“Ryder has been acting in this role for ten years straight,” he shared. “This is a first for me, as I’ve never played a character for such an extended period. Even agreeing to do just one episode felt like a significant commitment… all I had was the script for the pilot episode. At the time, I wasn’t familiar with streaming platforms. The uncertainty of it all was quite intimidating.”

In a candid chat with Harper’s Bazaar, Ryder shared some intriguing updates about her character Lydia in the upcoming “Beetlejuice” sequel. We now know that Lydia is a solo parent to Astrid, played by Jenna Ortega, and she still possesses the unique ability to communicate with the deceased. However, an significant issue arises between mother and daughter; Lydia is unable to utilize her power to connect with her late spouse. The arrival of Beetlejuice, portrayed once again by Keaton, is predicted to add more complexity to the Deetz family dynamics.

On September 6, 2024, you can catch Beetlejuice at the movies. Look forward to the debut of Stranger Things’ fifth season on Netflix in the year 2025.
