Eric Andre, Alan Cumming, Kali Reis and More React to Emmy Nominations: ‘Awards Are Stupid and Dopey, but They’re Also Really Lovely’

As a devoted fan of “Abbott Elementary,” I’m thrilled to pieces hearing Quinta Brunson share her feelings about the show’s Emmy nominations. Her words resonate with me deeply, as I too have watched the series grow and evolve amidst unprecedented challenges.

Following an unusual television season caused by the prolonged labor disputes from the previous year, the Emmy Award nominees for 2024 have been announced, bringing joy and excitement back to the industry.

In this year’s group of nominees, there are several individuals making their first appearance, such as Kali Reis from “True Detective: Night Country,” who is new to TV acting. She expressed her excitement and surprise about the announcement to EbMaster, stating, “I’m still getting used to all of this. The amount of encouragement I’ve received is truly astounding.”

For those who have been nominated multiple times, the recognition once again took them by surprise. “This one is particularly meaningful for me,” expressed Tyler James Williams from ‘Abbott Elementary.’ “Given everything that transpired this year – the need to go on strike, shorten our season, and alter our plans – it’s truly heartening to secure these nominations amidst the challenges. It felt as if we had to hurry back and were uncertain of the outcome.”

In Hollywood, there were significant milestones for shows and artists whose voices have often been overlooked in the past. For instance, Nava Mau, who stars in “Baby Reindeer,” became only the second trans actor ever nominated in a major category, preceded by Michaela Jae Rodriguez from “Pose.” In total, they are the third and fifth trans actors recognized, if we include Laverne Cox’s guest role on “Orange Is the New Black.”

At times, I’ve questioned whether I could continue in this line of work, Mau admitted. But whenever I encounter a glimmer of hope suggesting I shouldn’t quit, it serves as a powerful reminder of the significant progress I’ve made and my determination to press on.

The nominated individuals expressed whom they were supporting among their peers and hoped to collaborate with in the future. Ayo Edebiri was mentioned frequently. After receiving the news, they made their initial phone calls to certain people. For further responses to the 2024 nominations, please continue reading.

    Eric Andre

Eric Andre, Alan Cumming, Kali Reis and More React to Emmy Nominations: ‘Awards Are Stupid and Dopey, but They’re Also Really Lovely’

“Award for Best Act in a Short Comedy or Drama Series (‘The Eric Andre Show’ in the Comedy or Drama category, or in the EbMaster series if applicable)”

How did you respond when you learned that “The Eric Andre Show” earned you your initial two Emmy nominations?

After returning from Alaska by car, I was deeply moved and on the verge of tears or even vomiting when the driver turned around to look at me in surprise.

“How do you feel about pushing the boundaries so extensively with ‘The Eric Andre Show,’ deviating significantly from typical TV programming?”

It took us by surprise how much interest the show generated. Initially, we weren’t sure if it would even take off. Our early productions were simple and took place in a rundown bodega. Therefore, receiving such prominent acknowledgement is truly thrilling. I never imagined this level of success for our humble endeavor.

Have you had a chance to talk to any of the crew or the talent behind the scenes?

Around thirty minutes ago, I discovered something incredible, but everyone’s asleep now. However, I cannot overstate how impressive my team is, both crew and cast members. This project truly requires a community of dedicated individuals. My editors and postproduction team, old and new, have all jumped in to help. Making this show is a collective endeavor, and I am deeply grateful for their expertise and collaboration. It’s an honor to work alongside such intelligent and talented people.

Starting from Season 6, you’ve been traveling across the country. What lies ahead for you next? Is there any news about a new season of “The Eric Andre Show” that we can look forward to?

I’m currently engaged in projects that are under secrecy. Excitingly, we’ll be filming the last live episode of “The Eric Andre Show” in Los Angeles this Friday. Our tour concludes in L.A., and tickets were snapped up quickly. Hence, this week has been particularly emotional with this thrilling announcement.

    Alan Cumming

Eric Andre, Alan Cumming, Kali Reis and More React to Emmy Nominations: ‘Awards Are Stupid and Dopey, but They’re Also Really Lovely’

Outstanding Host for A Reality or Reality Competition Program (“The Traitors”)

How are you feeling after seeing your nomination?

As a movie reviewer, I’m thrilled to express my elation towards this remarkable production that has finally earned the recognition it deserves. This feeling of joy has been shared by many, including myself, who have long hoped for its success. With an impressive total of four nominations, I’m simply overjoyed for this show that has touched our hearts and minds in such a profound way.

Who was the first person you called to tell?

While in Scotland, I found myself engrossed in a live radio interview instead of making calls. My phone kept buzzing with messages during the broadcast, but I could only respond to them afterward. I managed to contact my mother, but that was the extent of my calling spree.

The way you’ve portrayed the Emcee in “Cabaret” is gaining popularity once more, with Eddie Redmayne taking on the role on Broadway. How do you feel about this fresh take on the character?

I’m deeply fond of Eddie, and I’m thrilled that he’s taking on this role. For years, Joel Grey and I were the only ones who had performed this part twice on Broadway. It felt like we were monopolizing it. Consequently, I’m genuinely happy that there’s now another interpretation of the role.

I’m slightly disappointed when I observe people imitating, as it happens frequently with the “Cabaret” role. The beauty of this character is its versatility – there are endless possibilities for interpretation. Here’s hoping that this inspires more unique renditions in the future.

I’ve spent a good portion of my career in the world of theater, and I’ve seen my fair share of productions that aim to bring new life to classic works. Some comparisons between these interpretations can be a touch uncomfortable at times. But you know what? I believe that’s just part of the creative process.

What has it been like working on “The Traitors” Season 3?

I’m really getting the hang of it now and excited to return to that castle. The group of people remains the same, and we have a comfortable rhythm going on. Each season brings subtle changes, and this last one was particularly filled with my unique contributions. It’s rewarding to be involved in something that’s well-received, engaging, witty, and seems to resonate with the times. Overall, it’s been an entirely enjoyable experience for me.

    Hannah Einbinder

Eric Andre, Alan Cumming, Kali Reis and More React to Emmy Nominations: ‘Awards Are Stupid and Dopey, but They’re Also Really Lovely’

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (“Hacks”)

Congratulations on your nomination! How are you feeling this morning?

I’m feeling immense gratitude, and love.

Who was the first person you spoke to about your nomination?

Based on my understanding of your text, it seems that you had an engaging and joyful conversation with someone named Jean over the phone. You shared some light-hearted banter, exchanged jokes, and even engaged in good-natured teasing or “roasting.” It sounds like this interaction brought a lot of laughter and excitement to your day. Given my own experiences with meaningful conversations, I can relate to the feeling of connection and enjoyment that comes from sharing moments of humor and camaraderie with another person. The fact that you mention keeping the experience between “me, Jean and God” suggests a level of intimacy and importance placed on this interaction. Overall, it’s clear that your time spent conversing with Jean left a positive impact on your day.

Is the cast group chat for “Hacks” blowing up right now?

Absolutely, I agree. For the first time, some remarkable actors have been nominated: Paul W. Downs (series co-creator) and Kaitlin Olson. We’re thrilled about this news because of their exceptional talents, and we’re all eagerly looking forward to this recognition for them.

What projects besides “Hacks” are you happy to see nominated?

“I absolutely love the comedy ‘Abbott Elementary.’ Many of my friends are part of its talented cast, and I’m in awe of their performances. I have immense respect for Sheryl Lee Ralph, Janelle James, and Quinta Brunson – their comedic skills never cease to amuse me.”

I’m a big fan of “Shogun.” I was thrilled to hear it received some nominations. Anna Sawai’s talent is remarkable and she’s truly impressive. I haven’t had a chance to check out all the nominees yet, but I adore those shows as well.

Are there any other nominees this year that you’d love to work with in the future?

I’m drawn to working with Andrew Scott. His humor is contagious, and he masterfully balances comedy and tragedy. He possesses remarkable dramatic skills, and his ability to make you laugh, both in person and on screen, is a joy. That’s the kind of talent I admire deeply. Working with him seems like an exciting opportunity.

What’s the biggest plot twist or surprise from the last year that’s still left you in shock?

In my opinion, it was during an episode of “Hacks” that left me utterly shocked. The revelation of Ava’s blackmailing scheme took me by surprise, even though I had watched it multiple times before. I couldn’t help but exclaim, “Wow, really?!”

    Noah Hawley

Eric Andre, Alan Cumming, Kali Reis and More React to Emmy Nominations: ‘Awards Are Stupid and Dopey, but They’re Also Really Lovely’

Exceptional Limited Series or Anthology, Remarkable Writing for a Limited Series or Film (“Fargo”)

As a devoted cinephile, I can’t contain my excitement when I hear that a film like “Fargo” has received an impressive fifteen nominations! This news fills me with immense pride and joy, knowing that the hard work and dedication put into creating such a masterpiece is being recognized. It’s moments like these that remind us of the power of cinema to move, inspire, and captivate audiences. I can hardly wait to see how it fares in the upcoming awards season!

I’m delighted, clearly, not only because we achieved a high viewership for our show, but also because it indicates that culturally, we continue to matter, and creatively, we’re still at the peak of our abilities after ten years. This is an uplifting sign, making the prospect of producing more episodes even more enticing.

Have you talked to Lamorne Morris, Juno Temple, or Jon Hamm yet, as they’ve all been recognized for their work on the show?

I’ve had conversations with most of them. The actors and crew members who contribute to making the show are an integral part of its success. People like Jeff Russo, my composer, and Dana Gonzalez, my cinematographer, who have been with me since the start, significantly shape the show’s identity. I’ve spoken to John, Juno, and Lamorne, among others, and everyone is thrilled with the progress.

You have another FX show on the horizon with “Alien.” Where in development are you with that?

After completing the filming stage, I’m now moving on to the extensive post-production phase for this large-scale project. I’m glad to have some breathing room with it. The initial year of production can be quite pressured, so it’s nice to have more time to explore the visual effects in depth. I’ve reviewed four hours out of the eight director cuts and have started collaborating on the cinematic vision for this show. This part of the process is one of my favorite aspects when creating a production.

“Has ‘Alien: Earth’ been confirmed as the actual title for the show, according to John Landgraf’s recent statement as the Chairman of FX Networks?”

That’s the title that we have discussed. Unless it changes, I think that is the title.

Will there be more “Fargo” productions coming up, or are you currently prioritizing “Alien: Earth”?

Based on my personal experiences and observations, I believe that predicting an exact day and date for future events is a challenging task, especially when it comes to significant or complex developments. The future is indeed a long and unpredictable journey, filled with twists and turns that can be influenced by countless factors beyond our control.

Eric Andre, Alan Cumming, Kali Reis and More React to Emmy Nominations: ‘Awards Are Stupid and Dopey, but They’re Also Really Lovely’

Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (“Shogun”)

The hit show “Shogun” earned an impressive total of 25 nominations during this television season, surpassing all other programs. Hearing this news as its creators and showruners, we were:

It’s heartening to witness many members of our team and cast being acknowledged for their hard work during the past five years. Reflecting back on those long months spent filming in Vancouver, it’s rewarding to see everyone who put in countless hours contributing to this project receive well-deserved recognition.

Kondo: I’d like to express my gratitude for your presence here today. Creating this show was a challenging experience for me, and I believe at times it may have been difficult for you to watch as well. However, it brings me great joy to know that people enjoyed and connected with it.

When my business partners and I joined FX, I was already a big fan due to all the shows I enjoyed there. It’s incredibly rewarding to be involved in this surge of success for FX, seeing shows like “The Bear,” “What We Do In The Shadows,” “Reservation Dogs,” and “Fargo” receive the acclaim they deserve. Their exceptional work and consistent track record leave me in awe.

Have you had a chance to speak with any of your cast and crew?

We’ve started having a few meetings, specifically for Season 2 of our show. Later today, we’ll be gathering in the writers’ room to resume work. About a week has passed since we began this new phase. We’re thrilled with the projects we’re taking on. All the writers who contributed significantly to Season 1 are present and accounted for. As we embark on this new season, we have much to be proud of and look forward to working together in person once again.

“Shogun” was renewed for two new seasons. What can we expect?

Kondo: Who knows? We want to know too!

I, Marks, am thrilled about the direction this show is heading. The intricacies of which scene precedes another have been a topic of discussion for quite some time now – not just for months, but in many ways, years. Last week’s reunion was an exhilarating experience, bringing back memories of the day I never thought would come again. It felt like sitting down in the writer’s room once more, surrounded by familiar faces, brainstorming character ideas on the wall.

    Nava Mau

Eric Andre, Alan Cumming, Kali Reis and More React to Emmy Nominations: ‘Awards Are Stupid and Dopey, but They’re Also Really Lovely’

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (“Baby Reindeer”)

Congratulations on your nomination. How are you doing?

I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. I kind of cannot believe it.

This is your first Emmy nomination. How does that make you feel?

Listening to you brings up strong feelings for me. I often recall the hours I spent at home as a child, imagining different personas and weaving intricate tales. My stories were so detailed that my mother began to believe they were true, occasionally expressing worry over the intensity of the situations I described.

As a film enthusiast, I’ve always admired how an innocent pastime like acting could blossom into a fulfilling and rewarding career. It’s something I never dared to imagine for myself, as it seemed too good to be true. But the sheer determination and grit required to succeed in this field is no secret to us actors. And to have had the privilege of honing my craft on a project as special as “Baby Reindeer” has been an incredible journey. To receive recognition from the Academy for my efforts is beyond anything I could have ever dreamed of.

What was your reaction when you found out?

    I just started crying.

Who did you call first to talk about your nomination?

Well, they were calling me to tell me! My manager called me and then I called my mom.

What was that conversation like with her?

It was brief. But she said she had been crying all morning too.

I’ve been through some rough patches at the start of this year. As an actor, I know I’m not alone in feeling this way. The industry can be relentless and there have been moments when I questioned if I could continue. But every time I receive a glimmer of hope or see a sign that things might turn around, it reminds me of the progress I’ve made and the determination I have within me to keep going. With each challenge overcome, I realize that I’ve come too far to give up now.

What’s your emotion being the inaugural trans Latina nominee ever, as well as the initial trans nominee within this particular category, telling me?

In my perspective, it’s undeniable that trans Latinas, Latina women, and the trans community at large are frequently underestimated and neglected. However, I firmly believe that we possess immense potential beyond what society may suggest. As someone who gets to embody various characters as an actor, I understand the power of transformation and growth. Therefore, I am confident that our community will continue to seize these opportunities for expansion and development.

    Lamorne Morris

Eric Andre, Alan Cumming, Kali Reis and More React to Emmy Nominations: ‘Awards Are Stupid and Dopey, but They’re Also Really Lovely’

Outstanding Supporting Actor in A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (“Fargo”)

    How’s your day going?

Today has been quite an extraordinary day. I was merely trying to be humorous when I mentioned that I haven’t had time for a shower yet. While having breakfast, my young one sat next to me and asked me why I was suddenly tearful, as I was overwhelmed with excitement. The day has been quite intense and rather dreamlike.

What was that like sharing that moment with your daughter this morning?

Based on the given text, it seems that there was a misunderstanding between two individuals due to tears being present. I’ve been in similar situations before, where my emotions have been misread by others. It can be frustrating and confusing when people jump to conclusions based on outward appearances instead of taking the time to understand the true situation.

I’m still in awe and a bit stunned by the news. I haven’t had time to fully absorb it and appreciate its significance. I understand things will get busy and chaotic soon, but I eagerly anticipate that moment when I can take a breath and truly marvel at this development, as it hasn’t fully sunk in yet.

Is the cast group chat active right now? What’s everyone saying?

David Rysdahl, the actor who portrayed Wayne on the show, has been teasing me mercilessly about my fitness routine and even posted some revealing photos of me on Instagram. I’ve taken a lot of good-natured ribbing from him, and it’s left me beaming with joy ever since. Despite feeling exhausted and barely getting any sleep last night, I can’t wipe the grin off my face.

Are there any other nominees that you’d love to work with in the future?

You put me in the same league as Robert Downey Jr.? I find that hard to believe, given he’s one of my all-time favorites! “Tropic Thunder” is a film that truly resonates with me. Anyone who knows me will confirm – I have a framed movie poster of it hanging in my home as proof.

In my circle, Lewis Pullman is a friend I enjoy collaborating with. Frankly, I’d be open to teaming up with anyone, including him, for a fun and challenging project that progresses us further.

Additionally, I’d be thrilled to collaborate with Ayo Edebiri in the future. We worked together on a film last year (“How it Ends”), but we didn’t have a chance to meet during that production. Regardless, she is an artist whose work I greatly admire and I hope to have the opportunity to create with her again.

You were cast in the new “Spider-Man Noir” series. What are you looking forward to in that?

It’s a pleasure collaborating with Nicolas Cage and Brendan Gleeson. My biggest challenge will be keeping focused on my performance instead of being distracted by their impressive acting skills.

I’m looking forward to this production being set in the past since it means I can anticipate fantastic costumes. The scripts are top-notch as well, and I’ve long harbored a desire to be a part of the superhero realm. It’s an exciting opportunity for me to join this world, and even more so, to embody a beloved Spider-Man comic book character.

    Lewis Pullman

Eric Andre, Alan Cumming, Kali Reis and More React to Emmy Nominations: ‘Awards Are Stupid and Dopey, but They’re Also Really Lovely’

Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series (Lessons In Chemistry)

This is your first Emmy nomination. How are you feeling?

I was completely taken aback, yet delighted, by the universal acclaim for the show. Creating it was an enjoyable experience for us, and it’s a great demonstration of how effective teamwork can lead to such a polished product. The narrative we crafted allowed for both support and exploration.

As a huge fan of both Marvel comics and the iconic Top Gun movie, I can’t help but be excited about what lies ahead for these beloved franchises! With Marvel’s Thunderbolts reportedly in the works, I’m eager to see how the team of anti-heroes will shake things up in the MCU. And as for Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel that’s been long awaited by fans, I can hardly contain my anticipation! Having grown up with these stories and characters, it feels like a part of me is invested in their continued success. Bring on the thrills, the action, and the drama – I’m ready for more!

Currently, the future is not entirely clear to me. I’m taking some time to reflect and decide on the stories or projects that resonate with me most, and where I can make a significant contribution. This period of exploration is both thrilling and nerve-wracking.

Which TV programs or actors have you been tuning in to during the current award season? Is there anyone in particular whose nominations you’re eagerly anticipating and rooting for?

I’ve been closely following the impressive careers of Andrew Scott, Juno Temple, Carrie Coon, Jeremy Allen White, and Ayo Edebiri. I’m a big fan of each one, as they consistently deliver captivating performances. It’s truly a privilege to witness their talents. Each actor brings unique and intriguing choices to the table. The abundance of talent in this group is remarkable, leaving me feeling humbled and almost out of place amongst such distinguished company. I can’t quite believe how I managed to gain entry into this circle.

    Kali Reis

Eric Andre, Alan Cumming, Kali Reis and More React to Emmy Nominations: ‘Awards Are Stupid and Dopey, but They’re Also Really Lovely’

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (“True Detective”)

How does it feel to be Emmy-nominated for your TV debut?

I’ve been through some tough times in my life, moments when hope seemed lost and the future looked bleak. But then, out of nowhere, something amazing happens that takes me by surprise. It leaves me speechless, almost disbelieving. The feeling is indescribable, a mix of shock, joy, and profound gratitude. It’s like waking up from a dream, only to find out it was real all along. This surreal experience fills me with a renewed sense of hope and determination. I can’t help but feel blessed for this unexpected turn of events in my life.

What was your reaction when you found out you were nominated?

Initially, I was merely enjoying the brief clip of the show on YouTube without expecting much since they hadn’t covered all categories. Yet, just seeing Jodie and the familiar faces brought me immense joy. Suddenly, my phone rang with news from my manager and agents. They excitedly asked, “Is this an Emmy nominee we’re speaking to?” I was taken aback, responding, “What? I’ve been nominated?”

I remember that particular morning as if it were yesterday. The sun was rising, casting a gentle glow over the neighborhood. I went about my usual routine, making my bed, brewing a fresh cup of coffee, and checking my emails. But something felt off. Something was lurking beneath the surface, waiting to be discovered.

“Could you describe your conversation with your mom over the phone? Was she the one to whom you spoke first, excluding your agents and manager?”

While speaking with my agents and manager on the phone, my mother called. I asked them to wait a moment, and upon answering, she exclaimed, “I knew it!” Her voice radiated immense pride.

It’s moments like these that make life worth living for me. Though I’m still finding my way in this new experience, witnessing her pride and receiving such strong encouragement is an indescribable feeling of joy and reassurance.

As the first Native American women to receive Emmy nominations, you and Lily Gladstone, what are your feelings about this achievement? And how do you plan to use this platform to promote greater representation of Indigenous actors within television?

It’s a privilege for me to be involved in the significant progress of Indigenous representation in the entertainment industry. Previously, I could only observe from the sidelines. Now, being part of this important dialogue during this period of collective pride for Indigenous peoples is truly breathtaking.

Sharing the presence of an admired figure like Lily Gladstone is a great honor for me. Our distinct Indigenous backgrounds add value to our connection, as we come from different regions. It’s fascinating how we can identify with each other through our shared Indigenous identity while also celebrating our unique experiences.

Have you spoken to Jodie Foster yet today?

Through text messages, she expressed her enthusiasm by saying, “I hope you’re celebrating with a dance around the living room! Congratulations!” It’s been truly impressive to witness all the nominations, and everyone has put in a great deal of effort. We’re all quite thrilled about it.

Are there any other nominees that you would love to work with in the future?

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled at the possibility of collaborating with Lily in the future. Her artistic skills are truly impressive and I can’t wait to see what we could create together. Similarly, it would be an absolute pleasure to work with Jodie once more. Nevertheless, my heartfelt congratulations go out to all the nominees. It’s a privilege and an honor for me to be part of this esteemed group, consisting of individuals I’ve long admired as a fan and respected as fellow artists. This experience has been nothing short of a profound blessing.

    Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet

Eric Andre, Alan Cumming, Kali Reis and More React to Emmy Nominations: ‘Awards Are Stupid and Dopey, but They’re Also Really Lovely’

Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (“Fallout”)

Congratulations! How do you feel right now?

Wagner: Gee whiz. We’re, I mean, a little overwhelmed, to be honest.

    Robertson-Dworet: It’s a big deal, for sure.

Where were you when you heard “Fallout” was nominated? How did you react?

While playing tennis, my phone was in front of me, causing me to miss each shot as I kept getting distracted by incoming texts. I read the announcement, dripping with sweat and feeling rather embarrassed.

Due to my daughter’s prolonged use of my phone to view her photos, I couldn’t figure out what was causing it to buzz persistently. Yet, I was eagerly anticipating the news.

The Emmy Awards recognized “Fallout” with a total of 15 nominations, among them for Best Drama, Outstanding Writing for Drama (for both of you), and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (for Walton Goggins). These acknowledgements speak volumes about the exceptional talent and dedication of the team behind this captivating show.

In my perspective, these nominations can be seen as a collective success, where all boats are lifted higher. The quality of the writing significantly improved due to Stuart Dryburgh’s cinematography. With Jonathan Nolan at the helm, the best talents from various fields were drawn in to contribute. Essentially, it felt like either we received numerous nominations or none at all. Each department worked cohesively towards a common goal. Television production is inherently collaborative, but this particular project stood out for its remarkable teamwork.

Regarding the significance of casting Walton in our video game adaptation, we wrote the role specifically for him. Our goal was to create a distinct blend of comedy and drama, and we believed Walton was the ideal actor to accomplish this balance so gracefully. His dedication to the character during filming was truly remarkable. Despite the sweltering 100-degree heat with high humidity that often caused his prosthetics to dissolve, he continued delivering outstanding performances.

Is there anything you can tease about Season 2?

Currently, we’re collaborating with the writers. They’re working on certain aspects while we have this conversation with you. We’re heavily involved in the process, so I can’t reveal any particular details. However, I can assure you that the outcome will be extraordinary and extremely grand.

    Tyler James Williams

Eric Andre, Alan Cumming, Kali Reis and More React to Emmy Nominations: ‘Awards Are Stupid and Dopey, but They’re Also Really Lovely’

    Congratulations. How are you feeling?

As a cinephile, I must admit, this year’s film awards season has been quite the rollercoaster ride for us all. With strikes, truncated seasons, and unexpected changes, it felt as if we were constantly having to pivot and adapt. Yet, amidst all the uncertainty, being able to secure these nominations fills me with an immense sense of gratitude. It was a race against time, and at times, we weren’t even certain if we would make it. But here we are, celebrating the best in cinema despite the challenges.

How about this instead: “Even if you’ve been nominated for this role three times already, the excitement never fades?”

As a movie lover, I can tell you from experience that producing a show with 22 episodes instead of the usual 13 is no walk in the park. When our team and I were among the first to return after a long hiatus, we faced numerous challenges. Some of the intricate details and ideas we had initially planned simply couldn’t be executed due to time constraints.

How long did it take you to start feeling confident in Season 3?

After enduring two or three episodes, we found ourselves struggling due to our prolonged seating. Typically, we wind down in March and resume our regular jobs by July. However, the extended sitting left us feeling chilly and disoriented as the storylines evolved. Fortunately, during group scenes, we supported one another, but we shared concerns among ourselves, admitting, “I feel out of sync.” Nevertheless, as an ensemble, when one of us gains momentum, we all follow suit.

After three years of playful banter and a single lingering kiss in the previous season, Gregory and Janine (creator Quinta Burnson’s characters) ultimately give in to their feelings and share a passionate kiss during the Season 3 finale. What can fans anticipate for these characters as we move forward into the next season?

In Gregory’s shoes, I share the anticipation of everyone, wondering “When will we take that step forward?” It feels great to finally act on that in the climax, and now we have the opportunity to discover what comes next. Since the beginning of the show, we’ve been building towards this moment where Janine and Gregory openly express their feelings for each other. I’m more eager than ever to get back to work, as we can now fully invest in this storyline. Some ideas Quinta has already suggested, and our first table read is scheduled for next week. We’re all set and prepared to delve into the new direction this show will take with them acknowledging their feelings. I can hardly wait to find out how this unfolds.

What other nominations were you excited to see today?

As a long-time fan of “Abbott Elementary,” I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing Randall Einhorn’s exceptional work behind the scenes for the past two years. From the heartwarming living classroom episode, to the captivating finale, and the delightful Christmas episode of Season 2, his contributions have brought so much joy and depth to the show.

As a movie reviewer, I’m thrilled to share my excitement about Sofia Vergara’s nomination for “Griselda.” Initially, I had worries that her exceptional performance might get overlooked due to the early release of the show in the season. However, I can confidently say that she truly shone in this role, and it’s a pleasure to witness her recognition. I’m glad that “Hacks” is back on our screens once again. Hannah Einbinder delivers consistently impressive performances, and I understand they faced some scheduling challenges. I wish them a successful year ahead. Quinta is another talent I admire greatly, but I wouldn’t mind seeing the legendary Carol Burnett receive an award for “Palm Royale.” Her contributions to our industry are immeasurable, and it would be a truly memorable moment if she graced the stage at 91 years old.
