The introduction of two new guns, Aberrant Action and Corrasion, has me salivating at the mouth, longing to secure their god rolls through focusing or crafting. However, Bungie decided to make this process a bit more challenging than usual.
In the second part of Destiny 2’s debut episode for new content named “Echoes,” two fresh weapons are introduced, obtainable through the activities within this episode. These weapons can be obtained eventually by purchasing them from Failsafe, the Echoes vendor. However, the capacity to convert Echoes engrams into Aberrant Action or Corrasion isn’t unlocked right away when the episode launches. Instead, you need to earn this upgrade as a reward for finishing Failsafe’s missions.
During the initial stage of Act 2, which lasts for a week, you won’t be able to access the skill to focus Aberrant Action and Corruption, no matter how much storyline or Failsafe content you complete. However, we have some insight into what steps will be required to gain this ability once it becomes accessible.
Two distinctive firearms stand out: Aberrant Action, a sidearm with rocket assistance, is among the rarest of its kind in the game. On the other hand, Corrasion, a heavy pulse rifle, offers a unique shooting experience unlike any other pulse weapon. The opportunity to obtain ideal versions of these guns through focusing or crafting processes adds to their allure.
Complete Failsafe’s Specimen Missions
In Act 2, there’s a fresh task identified as NES004, which involves collecting peculiar Vex items from Nessus for Failsafe to examine. This assignment is quite laborious and doesn’t immediately grant the upgrade to focus on new weapons. However, finishing it is essential to acquire an alternative upgrade that eventually grants focusing capabilities. Therefore, you should prioritize completing this mission whenever you can to progress towards the focusing upgrade.
NES004 Step 1 – Open Episode Chests
As a gamer, I’ve come across Specimen ID: NES004, and let me tell you, it can be quite a challenge to get through this one. To advance, you first need to complete episode activities and open the chests that appear at the end of each episode. The process can feel slow and tedious at times.
NES004 Step 2 – Focus Echoes Gear
After completing sufficient tasks in each episode, make your way back to Failsafe. Your objective is to focus five Echoes engrams into desired gear items. Keep in mind that you cannot decrypt Echoes engrams into random items to meet the progress requirement. Instead, use the focusing menu to select a specific item. You’re not obligated to focus on individual weapons or armor if you prefer, which is convenient because focused engrams cost more than general focusing. For the most economical choice, pick the Echoes engram on the armor focusing menu at the far left. Each decode will cost only one engram, and each count towards your progress goal once focused. Once you’ve achieved this, the quest is completed.
NES004 Step 3 – Extract Data And Complete Battlegrounds
In Battlegrounds, you’ll need to accomplish two tasks: gathering data from episodes and overpowering formidable opponents. These seem distinct, but they can be achieved during the same Battlegrounds session. Keep an eye out for Radiolite specimens – oddly-shaped crystals – as you progress through the mission. Use a Resource Detector on your Ghost shell to locate them more easily. Additionally, hit Vex Planetary Assimilation Pistons with your Piston Hammer to secure enough Radiolite for completing this objective. Typically, we found that managing these tasks didn’t require much thought.
NES004 Step 4 – Return To Failsafe
Return to the HELM and converse with Failsafe to acquire your Specimen ID: NES004, then place it in the specimen tank. This action will grant you the Armor Reputation Boost upgrade from Failsafe, increasing your earned reputation points by 100% when wearing Echoes armor and participating in activities or turning in bounties.
Unfortunately, focusing Aberrant Action or Corruption isn’t granted by getting rid of Specimen ID: NES004. On the bright side, eliminating it enables you to progress with the next mission once available. In time, accomplishing tasks like this will lead to acquiring the focus capability for these new weapons. An added benefit is the ability to buy a Deepsight version each week to expedite their crafting process.
As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the journey to mastering the art of unlocking focusing for Echoes weapons is both intriguing and challenging.
