James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Is ‘Getting Close’ to the End of Filming After Wrapping Six-Week Cleveland Shoot: ‘Still a Couple Weeks Left’

As a lifelong film enthusiast and someone who has followed the world of superhero movies with great enthusiasm, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of excitement and admiration for James Gunn’s production of “Superman.” Having read the heartfelt message he shared on Twitter about wrapping up six weeks of shooting in Cleveland, I can’t help but be moved by his passion and appreciation for the city and its people.

James Gunn shared on Threads that the filming of “Superman” is nearing completion following a six-week stint in Cleveland. The director-writer assured fans, “We haven’t finished shooting yet,” and there are “a few weeks left.” He emphasized that it’s a lengthy production but they’re nearly wrapping up! Before Cleveland, the “Superman” team started filming in Atlanta.

In Cleveland, our six-week filming stint is coming to an end as stated by Gunn. Ever since our initial visit for a scout around eleven months ago when Terminal Tower was adorned with Superman’s colors, I sensed your unique charm. While wandering through your streets, I was frequently approached by locals expressing their gratitude for our filming presence in their city – an occurrence that happened more than just a few times.

Gunn commended the enthusiasm of the background actors in Cleveland, expressing how they brought joy and amusement to the set with their consistent clapping during takes, serving as a reminder for us jaded filmmakers of the genuine pleasure that filmmaking brings.

“Gunn expressed that it was inspiring to feel proud of being in the same place where Superman was originally brought to life by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Your embodiment of Superman’s essence was moving. But what also struck a chord with me is your sense of pride in your community, town, radio stations, restaurants, and social hubs.”

Gunn expressed his gratitude, “You’re the kind of person every city would be fortunate to have, your love for the city was unmatched. Your warmth, kindness, and hospitality towards me, the performers, and crew were beyond appreciated. We feel blessed to consider you our friends and partners on this film project. Sending much love your way.”

As a longtime fan of comic books and superhero stories, I’m thrilled to share my excitement about the upcoming “Superman” film, previously known as “Superman: Legacy.” The title change is intriguing, signaling a fresh start for the DC Universe under the visionary leadership of James Gunn and his co-chief Peter Safran.

In Gunn’s adaptation of “Superman,” the star-studded cast features Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult portraying Lex Luthor, along with Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), and Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl, among others).

“Superman” is set to open in theaters on July 11, 2025, from Warner Bros.
