My Hero Academia Voice Actors On How The Show Has Matured Throughout The Years

As a long-time fan and avid gamer, I have been hooked on My Hero Academia since its debut in 2018. The anime has become a significant part of my life, and with six seasons under its belt, it’s amazing to see how the show has evolved right along with its audience.

Over the past six years and throughout seven seasons, My Hero Academia, initially released in 2018, has gained immense popularity as a globally watched anime. Its influence extends beyond television screens into video games and films. One of many factors contributing to its success is how the show has grown alongside its audience, evolving in complexity and depth.

During an interview at Anime Expo 2024 with GameSpot, Daiki Yamashita (the voice actor for Izuku Midoriya, or Deku) discussed his perspective on the show’s development. He particularly touched upon Season 6, where Deku considered it wiser to confront All For One alone instead of with his classmates.

As a gamer, I can tell you that Season 6 took me on an intense emotional journey, particularly during the second half. Following the epic Shigaraki battle, the stakes got even higher as our heroes found themselves up against All For One. This meant that Deku was left to face his challenges all alone. The solitary nature of this battle brought out a new side of him that I hadn’t seen before. It was a gripping experience that had me on the edge of my seat, rooting for him every step of the way.

As a gamer putting myself in Kenta Miyake’s shoes, I can relate to Yamashita’s feelings and offer my perspective on how portraying All Might, Japan’s top hero, evolved after he lost his powers against All For One in Season 3. Previously, I brought the iconic hero to life with unyielding strength and optimism. But as the story unfolded, I had to dig deeper into my acting skills to convey All Might’s vulnerability and resilience in the face of adversity. This transformation made our interactions more nuanced and complex, adding depth to both Yamashita and myself as we navigated this new chapter in All Might’s journey.

After the clash with All For One, Miyake noted, there were significant internal shifts. All Might’s powers vanished, leaving him to assume the role of a mentor for Deku. This transformation in mindset proved crucial as his demeanor softened noticeably from his earlier self.

In various episodes of the show, you’ll notice this modification taking place. Although All Might remains an essential character, he assumes a less prominent position, supporting the newer heroes from behind the scenes.

As a huge fan of My Hero Academia, it’s hard to accept that its reign as one of the most beloved anime series may soon be coming to an end. Just last week, creator Kohei Horikoshi shockingly announced that the manga serving as the show’s source material will conclude in August. This revelation left me with a mix of emotions: excitement for the final chapters, sadness that it’s nearing its end, and curiosity about how the story will wrap up.

As someone who has been following “My Hero Academia” since its early seasons, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension as we approach the end of this captivating story. The phrase “It’s a story until [Deku] becomes the best hero ever,” has echoed in my mind since the series began. I’ve pondered over who this best hero might be, a question that seems to linger for many fans.

Despite the fact that it remains to be seen how Deku will eventually become the top hero and claim that title, Yamashita is eagerly anticipating the discovery, acting not only as the voice actor for Midoriya but also as an engaged fan of the show.

Miyake expressed regret that the manga was coming to an end. However, he held Horikoshi in high regard for having poured all of his effort into the series.

Miyake expressed his admiration for the author’s work, stating that they had accomplished nearly everything intended. Upon hearing the news, he felt a sense of joy. Although he wished for more, the lengthy narrative’s continuation was astounding in itself.

As a dedicated fan, I can only share my personal perspective on how I’d love to see the story unfold for My Hero Academia, despite the current ending. Yamashita and I both harbor hopes that a new duo will join forces with Deku and Froppy in future seasons. The reason being, they haven’t had a proper team-up since their epic battle at USJ back in Season 1. Although there were hints of it in the latest season, unfortunately, it didn’t come to pass.

Miyake expressed his delight at the possibility of witnessing a battle between All Might and Sir Nighteye as teammates. Although their collaboration is detailed in the storyline, it hasn’t been shown on screen. The anime may include a brief flashback, but given that Nighteye passed away after Season 4, this scene seems unlikely to materialize.

Despite the current excitement surrounding the conclusion of My Hero Academia’s storyline, I’m thrilled to share that there are still many tales to be told. Not long ago, we received news of an upcoming movie – “My Hero Academia: You’re Next.” This title is a clever reference to All Might’s famous line, adding another layer to the series’ lore. As of now, the anime hasn’t revealed a definitive end date, leaving us eagerly anticipating more adventures in this captivating world.
