Final Emmy Predictions: Comedy Series – ‘The Bear’ Poised to Break Nomination Record; Could FX Pick Up Two Additional Series Noms?

As a long-time television enthusiast with a deep appreciation for the artistry and innovation that goes into producing exceptional programs, I find the Primetime Emmy Awards to be a truly special celebration of excellence in American television. Having grown up watching some of the most iconic shows in television history, I’ve witnessed firsthand the impact that groundbreaking storytelling and captivating performances can have on audiences.

As a passionate cinematic enthusiast, I’ve been keeping a close eye on the small screen scene, and let me tell you, the second season of FX’s smash hit “The Bear,” which graced our screens in June 2023, is giving some serious competition. With its unique blend of humor and drama, it’s leaving quite an impression, and it might even take the lead in the Emmy nominations race.

Which show will join the culinary series?

Is it a debate worth having which of the two FX shows will be chosen: “What We Do in the Shadows,” which has been nominated several times before, or the less recognized “Reservation Dogs” entering its final season. Or perhaps an unexpected genre show like Amazon Prime Video’s “Gen V” could win our surprise on awards morning?

In the realm of comedy shows, “The Bear” on FX currently holds the title as the reigning culinary champion. It may face competition from returning nominees like “Abbott Elementary” on ABC and “Only Murders in the Building” on Hulu. Previous nominees such as “What We Do in the Shadows” on FX, “Hacks” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” on HBO/Max have had brief absences but are now back in contention. Newcomers to the race include Netflix’s witty crime show “The Gentlemen” and Amazon Prime Video’s “Gen V,” a spinoff of “The Boys.” With 73 comedies in the running, this is a significant decrease from the record-breaking 118 in 2022 and the more modest 68 in 2021.

I’m excited to share that the nominations round voting is open from June 13 until June 24 at 10:00 p.m. PT. If there are peer group-specific top ten round panels, voting for those will take place between June 28 and July 8. The Emmy nominations will be announced on July 17. Then, the Creative Arts and Governors Gala ceremonies will happen over two nights on Sept. 7-8. Lastly, the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live on ABC on Sunday, Sept. 15.

    About the Primetime Emmy Awards

As a movie critic, I’d put it this way: Every year, I look forward to the Primetime Emmy Awards, also known as the Emmys. These prestigious accolades are bestowed upon deserving individuals by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS), established back in 1949. The Emmys recognize exceptional achievements in American primetime television, dividing them into three categories:
