As a longtime gamer and fan of classic TV shows, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when I come across stories like this one about Andrea Elson, the actress who brought Lynn Tanner to life in the beloved 80s sitcom “Alf.”
In the 1980s, the “Alf” TV show, which told the story of a lovable alien from Melmac who lived with the Tanner family, became extremely popular and drew large audiences to their televisions. The series ran for four consecutive years, allowing viewers to become familiar with both the endearing extraterrestrial character and the human actors they saw on their screens.
A number of people in the audience might be curious about the current whereabouts of some artists, following the sad news that Benji Gregory, one of Alf’s stars, passed away in July this year. Regarding Andrea Elson, she seemingly vanished from the entertainment industry; it seems this was a personal choice made by the actress who opted for a new direction.
As a kid, I started my acting journey as a model for commercials. When we relocated to Los Angeles in 1983, I got my first big break at 14, joining the cast of “Whiz Kids,” a TV show about teenage detectives. Unfortunately, it only lasted for one season, but it gave me valuable exposure that led to more opportunities. These roles were scattered and not very significant, but my most memorable one was playing a character on “Alf.”
From 1986 to 1990, Elson portrayed the character of Lynn Tanner on TV. After a seven-year span, she continued her acting journey with diverse roles in shows such as “Who’s the Boss?”, “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose”, “Married… with Children”, and “Mad About You”.
Back in 1997, Andrea Elson decided to leave her career in show business behind and devote more time to her loved ones. She is married to Scott Hopper, a fellow industry professional, and they are proud parents of three wonderful children. More recently, in 2016, Andrea revealed that she now manages a yoga studio in sunny California, and she has chosen not to resume her acting career.
