Cooper Flagg, Guard, Dallas Mavericks: 87 OVR (+1)
Flagg recently became a top performer and his overall rating has increased to 87. He’s been consistently scoring, with three games over 30 points and only one below 20. Currently ranked 32nd in the league for points per game, he’s expected to climb even higher if he maintains this level of play.
The Mavericks are also currently on a losing streak since the last ratings update. While they’d prefer to see Flagg perform well in victories, he has been scoring more points per game this month than Luka Doncic, which is a bright spot.
Stephon Castle, Guard, San Antonio Spurs: 85 OVR (+1)
Castle is currently 11th in the league with an average of seven assists per game. This improvement in his overall rating is likely due to his outstanding performance against the Mavericks on February 7th. In that 138-125 victory, he scored 40 points, dished out 12 assists, grabbed 12 rebounds, and made 15 out of 19 shots.
Castle hasn’t been playing at his full potential lately because of an injury. He’s only been averaging a little over 22 minutes per game in February, which is about 10 minutes less than he played in January. The Spurs need more than just Victor Wembanyama to win, so it’s important for Castle to get healthy. Since the last report, San Antonio has been playing well, winning six games in a row and only losing one.
Alexandre Sarr, Center, Washington Wizards – 84 OVR (+1)
Okay, so this rookie, the guy drafted second overall this year, is starting to really show what he’s got! His overall rating in the game just got a little bump because he’s been playing awesome. He seriously went off against the Bucks in January, grabbing a career-high 17 rebounds! Before that, he dropped 24 and then 29 points in two games. Even in a recent loss to the Heat, he still managed 12 rebounds, which is pretty solid. I’m excited to see how much his rating goes up if he keeps this up!
Sarr is having a much better season this year, scoring over 17 points per game compared to 13 last season, and grabbing 7.8 rebounds per game, up from 6.5. However, he’s currently injured with a hamstring strain and is expected to be sidelined for about two weeks, meaning he won’t be upgraded in the next player ranking update.
Many players across the league saw their ratings improve, but 2K highlighted three particularly promising young talents in this update. These players are all very early in their careers and are expected to have bright futures.
