THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive have revealed that the remake of the classic game Gothic 1 will be released on June 5th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam.
The first Gothic game came out in 2001, created by Piranha Bytes, the studio behind Risen and Elex. A remake was first hinted at with a demo in 2019, and now, 25 years after the original, the full remake is launching this summer.

The main goal of the Gothic 1 Remake is to recapture the unique and immersive experience of the original game. That includes its rough-around-the-edges atmosphere, realistic open world, authentic dialogue, and the feeling of being an unknown outsider in a harsh land – all elements that made Gothic a beloved classic 25 years ago. The team at Alkimia Interactive has spent countless hours perfecting every aspect, from character appearances and voices to ensure they feel both true to the original and modern, while still maintaining that gritty, realistic feel.
This project wasn’t about simply creating something functional; we aimed for a truly immersive and authentic Gothic aesthetic in every detail. Achieving that required significantly more refinement and revisions than usual.
The Gothic 1 Remake isn’t coming out any sooner or later than planned – it will be released on June 5th, 2026, and that date is firm.
