Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Claws of Awaji Switch 2 Release Date Coming Up

So, Assassin’s Creed Shadows from Ubisoft Quebec is almost a year old now, which is awesome! It got me thinking – the developers might have something special planned for next month to celebrate. I’m especially excited because I just got a Switch 2, and I’m hoping whatever they’re planning will be great for us new players on that system!

During a recent call with investors, Ubisoft announced that the first major expansion for Shadows, called Claws of Awaji, is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in March. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced, launching on March 20th – the game’s one-year anniversary – would be a logical choice.

In an October update about the game Shadows, Quebec announced it would be released on Nintendo Switch 2 in December. They also mentioned that the Claws of Awaji expansion would arrive on the Switch later in the following year.

Players of Switch 2 will be able to experience the final chapter of Naoe and Yasuke’s story in about a month, as they face danger on the island of Awaji, which is overrun with Templars.

Claws of Awaji Explained

Like other story expansions for Ghost of Tsushima, Claws of Awaji continues the story after the main game’s ending. It follows Assassin Hattori Hanzo as he continues searching for Naoe’s mother, with guidance from Assassin Mentor Fujibayashi Tsuyu.

Naoe tracks the path to Awaji Island, near Izumi Settsu, where the locals are suffering under the harsh rule of Sanzoku Ippa. This group, led by Kimura Yukari – the daughter of the powerful Templar lord Kimura Kei – is allied with the Templar Order.

Naoe, aided by Hanzo and Yasuke, will work to liberate Awaji from the Templars, overcome Yukari’s key followers – Yasuhira, Nowaki, and Imagawa Tomeji – and locate Tsuyu.

The first major expansion for the game Shadows, called Claws of Awaji, is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in March.

Beyond finishing the main story in Awaji, the DLC offers plenty of new things to do, like learning to use Naoe’s bo staff and discovering all the beautiful places to paint in the Sumi-e landscapes.

Ubisoft Quebec hasn’t confirmed a Nintendo Switch 2 release for Claws of Awaji, but they’re expected to announce it soon. The announcement will likely come with their Year 2 Roadmap Update, similar to the one they shared shortly after the initial release of Shadows in early 2025.
