Viral kitten with giant eyes due to rare condition beats disease and is now fully healthy

A kitten famous online for her big eyes is now completely healthy after battling a severe illness that could have caused her to lose her vision.

I was totally blown away when I saw pictures of Dorito online! She looks incredible, but honestly, she looked so unique that some people thought she was a digital creation! It turns out she’s a survivor of a really tough illness called ocular FIP, and her amazing look is actually a result of that battle, which she thankfully won!

Feline infectious peritonitis, often called FIP, is a viral disease that can cause serious inflammation in kittens. For Dorito, this inflammation affected her eyes, preventing fluid from draining properly and building up pressure, which led to glaucoma.

Cat with stunning eyes goes viral

Kittens’ eyes can quickly appear larger even with gentle pressure, due to the flexibility of the tissue around their eyes. This is how Dorito got his distinctive, wide-eyed expression.

Thanks to antiviral medication and careful eye treatment, her glaucoma is gone, her corneal ulcers have healed, and her eye pressure is now under control.

Despite having poor eyesight and needing daily eye drops to keep her eyes lubricated – as her eyelids don’t close completely – a doctor has assured that her eyes are healthy and not in danger.

Dorito is now completely healthy and has become an online sensation thanks to her unique look. Although her eyes might get smaller as she gets older, she’s doing well and, most importantly, is no longer in pain.

I can’t believe how far Dorito has come! What started as a really scary health issue has become the most amazing survival story. She’s now a happy, healthy, and totally one-of-a-kind cat, and if you look into her incredible eyes, you can just see how much she’s been through and overcome.

Great news! Dorito, the cat from The Bitty Kitty Brigade, has been adopted by the wonderful foster family who has been looking after her.
