Taylor Sheridan Breakout Star Brandon Sklenar’s New Modern-Day Western Movie Lands Release Date

A familiar star from Taylor Sheridan‘s TV universe is going back to the world of Westerns.

Brandon Sklenar, known for playing Spencer Dutton in 1923, will be in a new Western film coming out soon. He also appeared in two popular movies last year: the mystery thriller Drop with Meghann Fahy, and the psychological thriller The Housemaid, alongside Sydney Sweeney.

According to Deadline, Paramount has revealed its upcoming movie release schedule, and that includes a date for “The Rescue.” This modern Western follows a rodeo cowboy who must apply his talents in an unusual situation. “The Rescue” is set to hit theaters on January 29, 2027.

Joining Taylor Sheridan in The Rescue is Hassie Harrison, who previously played Laramie on Yellowstone. The film is directed by Potsy Ponciroli, known for his work on movies like Old Henry (2021) and Greedy People (2024). He also directed Motor City, which debuted at the Venice International Film Festival in August 2024.

With the announcement of a 2027 release for The Rescue, director Sklenar now has three films scheduled for next year. The Rescue will be his first release, followed by the action thriller F.A.S.T., which was written by Sheridan and directed by Ben Richardson, and is slated for release on April 23, 2027. He’s also currently shooting Vegas: A Love Story.

Details about The Rescue are still limited, but director Sklenar’s experience with the Yellowstone spinoff series makes him an excellent choice for the film. It’s also likely to be Paramount’s first major release of the year, as they currently don’t have any other films planned for January 2027.

Currently, Paramount doesn’t have many movies scheduled for release. Two confirmed films are coming in 2027: the drama Get Lite, starring Storm Reid and directed by Teyana Taylor, set to release on April 9th, and an unnamed horror film, Event, which will be in theaters on July 16th.

With The Rescue scheduled for release in less than a year, director Sklenar’s films are likely to remain significant for quite some time. Fortunately, the movie is being directed by the well-respected Ponciroli, suggesting it could be a standout Western and a great way for Paramount to begin the year.
