Borderlands 4 Will Buff Builds Prior To Any Nerfs

Players who enjoy playing as Vault Hunters don’t need to be concerned about any weakening of their characters right now. Gearbox, the game developer, is prioritizing improvements to skills and gear for Borderlands 4 instead, focusing on making those elements stronger.

Graeme Timmins, the creative director for Borderlands 4, recently shared the team’s upcoming plans on X (formerly Twitter). He explained that while they’ve noticed discussions about powerful, unintended combinations of skills and the knife, they won’t be addressing those right away. Instead, their initial focus will be on improving weaker weapons and abilities. They plan to tackle the problematic builds later.

We’ve noticed discussions about powerful character builds that rely on unexpected combinations or the knife weapon. We’re not making changes to those right away. Our priority is to first improve gear and skills that aren’t performing well. We’ll address the problematic builds later.

Timmins has addressed this topic before. Last week, he said the team wouldn’t make any hasty changes, even if a player discovered a particularly powerful strategy in the game. He also highlighted that because the game focuses on playing with or against the environment, rather than other players, balancing online competition isn’t a priority.

A recent update for Borderlands 4 addressed stability problems for PC players. However, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford continues to respond defensively to criticism about the game online. In contrast, Gearbox developer Chris Timmins offered a more reassuring response to a fan on X, stating that a field of view (FOV) slider is coming to consoles, but players will need to wait for the update to release.
