I’m so hyped! Grasshopper Manufacture just released Romeo is a Dead Man on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam! They even dropped a killer launch trailer featuring music from the awesome Japanese rap group Scha Dara Parr – and their tracks are actually in the game too, which is amazing!
Romeo is a Dead Man marks GhM’s first self-published game and introduces a completely new story from the studio and Goichi Suda (known as SUDA51, creator of No More Heroes, The Silver Case, and Shadows of the Damned) in over five years. The game combines the studio’s signature over-the-top, violent action with a unique narrative about love, loss, and plenty of bloodshed.
FBI agent Romeo Stargazer, brought back from the edge of death by his grandfather’s advanced technology, now hunts the universe’s most dangerous criminals. Known as “DeadGear,” he’s equipped with a powerful collection of weapons for both ranged and close-quarters combat. But being a man caught between life and death, navigating a broken timeline, is complicated further by the unexpected vanishing of his girlfriend, Juliet.
Goichi Suda, the head of Grasshopper Manufacture, stated that their new game, Romeo is a Dead Man, is their first original title in a while. He believes it builds on their history of innovative action games and sets a new high standard for the genre.
We really wanted Romeo to be a memorable character for players, and not just because he’s strong. We’ve created a lot of popular characters in the past, but with Romeo, our goal was to make someone truly lovable to gamers everywhere.
I knew I was onto something when I wrote the line, ‘From here on out, you’re a dead man.’ It felt like a turning point in the story, and that’s why I ended up using it as the game’s title. I hope players connect with the character of Romeo and enjoy exploring this world – and that they’ll want to come back for more adventures on the spaceship after they finish the game.
