A sequel to Brad Pitt’s Formula 1 movie is officially happening! Fans can expect another thrilling ride after the success of the first film.
The new Apple Studios film, directed by Joseph Kosinski (known for Top Gun: Maverick), stars Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former racing driver who gets a chance to redeem himself. He’s asked by a friend to help turn around a struggling Formula 1 team called APXGP.
He adds excitement to the racing world with his unique approach and intense competition with his new teammate, Joshua Pierce (Damson Idris). They’re competing against famous drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, and Max Verstappen, both on the racetrack and in their personal interactions.
With a worldwide gross of $633 million and an Oscar nomination for Best Picture, it’s not surprising that a sequel to F1 is now being planned.
F1 sequel is in the works
Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer, has announced they’re working on a follow-up to the Formula 1 movie while at an event in Los Angeles. He didn’t say if Brad Pitt and Idris Elba would be returning as the racing drivers.
Since the success of the first movie relied heavily on the chemistry between the actors, it would be surprising if at least one of them didn’t appear in the next installment. However, producer Jerry Bruckheimer mentioned that Brad Pitt would definitely have input on who gets cast. Pitt was a producer on the first film, along with Bruckheimer, Kosinski, and Hamilton.
Bruckheimer said he was surprised by the recent awards attention for Formula 1, especially considering the challenges the film faced during the 2024 Hollywood strikes.
It was a real struggle getting the movie finished – we actually had to weather a couple of strikes along the way! But it was all worth it seeing how much people around the world enjoyed it. And honestly, getting to work with Brad Pitt for the first time was a total dream come true. He’s amazing!
