Square Enix is releasing an update for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PlayStation 5 that will include better lighting, mirroring improvements made in the PC version. The update also introduces Streamlined Progression, a feature now available on both PC and PS5.
So, Naoki Hamaguchi, the head of the team at Square Enix, just announced something cool. It sounds like the update to let you carry over your progress is coming out on the same day as the Switch 2 and Xbox versions – just like they did with the first Final Fantasy VII Remake. Honestly, I’m a little curious about how trophies and achievements will work with this new feature. I’m guessing it’ll be pretty similar to how ‘Streamlined Progression’ worked in the first game, but we’ll have to wait and see!

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was recognized with the Best Music award from RPG Site’s Best of 2024 Awards. You can find more details about the awards here. The game is currently available on PlayStation 5 and PC, through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Check out our initial impressions for handheld play here and our full PS5 review here. A version for the upcoming Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S (with Play Anywhere support) will launch on June 3rd.

With the upcoming release of FFVII REBIRTH on Switch 2 and Xbox, we’re updating the PS5 and PC versions to include a new feature called Streamlined Progression, making gameplay smoother and faster.
The PS5 version will also incorporate the lighting improvements previously added on PC.
Throughout the FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE series, we want everyone to have a great experience, no matter what platform they’re playing on. We’ll keep working to make sure the game runs smoothly and is enjoyable for all players.
