Olympian Amber Glenn isn’t just a talented ice skater – she’s also a passionate Magic: The Gathering player. She loves the game so much that she even named her dog, Uki, after one of her favorite cards!
Even elite athletes need time to relax and recharge after achieving great things. Olympic sprinter Noah Lyles, for example, often spends his downtime playing the video game League of Legends on his Rift account.
Figure skater Amber Glenn recently contributed to a U.S. team gold medal win at the 2026 Winter Olympics, but she actually prefers playing tabletop games. She’s especially passionate about Magic: The Gathering, the widely popular trading card game from Wizards of the Coast.
I’m seriously impressed with this gamer – she’s become a huge deal on social media! She doesn’t just play the game, she really knows it, and she’s super competitive to boot. If you’re in Texas, you might even run into her at your local card shop – I’d love to see her in action!
Olympic gold medalist Amber Glenn goes viral for love of Magic: The Gathering
I was so thrilled to watch Glenn compete in the women’s free skate at the Winter Olympics! Her performance really helped the U.S. team bring home the gold – we won the team event, which was amazing to see!
Honestly, people are talking more about some stuff she said before she even got on the ice. It all started with an interview on KTVZ News that came out on January 23rd, 2026 – that’s where it all began, and it’s getting a lot of attention now.
“We know you’re a fan of this game,” the hosts said with a smile. Glenn quickly proved them right, pulling a handful of Magic: The Gathering cards from her pockets. “I was ready!” she exclaimed.
The cards weren’t in protective sleeves and had clearly been handled a lot, so they weren’t particularly special. Glenn playfully admitted she hadn’t brought her best, most valuable cards with her, joking that those were her “prized possessions.”
“I go to local game stores and play. I know it’s nerdy, but it’s my hobby and I enjoy it.”
Okay, so get this – the streamer’s dog is named after a Magic: The Gathering creature! It’s called Ukkima, Stalking Shadow, a really strong blue and black card that’s basically unblockable. She named her dog Uki as a little nod to it, which I thought was super cool!
She’s not only a fan of trading card games, but also enjoys anime, particularly ‘Death Note,’ which she mentioned as a favorite in an interview with People magazine.
With the success of the Avatar: The Last Airbender collaboration, Magic: The Gathering is likely to explore more anime partnerships. And if a Death Note set ever comes out, you can be sure our own Glenn will be buying every card available in her area!
