With many science fiction TV shows facing cancellation, Apple TV’s three-season series remains secure. Sci-fi is a key part of what Apple TV offers, with popular shows like the alternate history drama For All Mankind and the post-apocalyptic thriller Pluribus helping to drive the streaming service’s growth.
Another major success is the series Foundation. Inspired by Isaac Asimov’s books, Foundation depicts a struggle between a future galactic empire and a group called the Foundation. The story unfolds over centuries, centering on the Foundation’s efforts to safeguard human knowledge after a prediction foretells the empire’s downfall within a few hundred years.
Foundation Is Coming Back For Season 4
I started watching Foundation when it came out in 2021, and I was immediately hooked! It’s inspired by Isaac Asimov’s books, and it follows the story of Hari Seldon and his student, Gaal Dornick. The show is all about the conflict between a powerful empire and the Foundation they’re building, and what’s really cool is that each season can jump forward hundreds of years in time. It’s a really ambitious and interesting way to tell a story.
Because the show has done well on Apple TV, new seasons have appeared about every two years. Currently, season 4 of Foundation is being made, with Ian B. Goldberg and David Kob now leading the creative team, taking over from co-creator David S. Goyer. Despite these changes, the show’s track record suggests it will remain popular.
Foundation’s Run On Apple TV Is Already Impressive
Season 3 of Foundation performed well on Apple TV+, proving popular enough to earn it another season. Apple TV+ is known for hosting long-running science fiction series, but Foundation‘s complex, centuries-spanning story makes its success particularly noteworthy.
As a sci-fi fan, I’d put Foundation right up there with shows like Severance and Dark Matter – all three really deliver those intricate, thought-provoking stories we love. But what really sets Foundation apart for me is its unique structure. It almost feels like an anthology series, where you see familiar faces playing completely different characters each time, except for Hari and Gaal. It’s a clever way to tell a sprawling, epic story.
Isaac Asimov’s Foundation Books Give The Show Unlimited Potential
The show Foundation has a lot of exciting possibilities for the future, drawing from Isaac Asimov’s original book series. Asimov wrote seven books in the main Foundation series, and it’s connected to his other works, like the Galactic Empire and Robot series. While the show has already used some ideas from these connected stories, there’s still plenty of material to adapt in future seasons.
Because Foundation is a big hit for Apple TV+ viewers, we can expect more seasons that continue the show’s complex, decades-spanning story. As the series goes on, it has the potential to become even better, highlighting the qualities that make it stand out and keep people watching.
