Paul Thomas Anderson and Jonny Greenwood have asked that music from their film Phantom Thread be removed from the documentary Melania. They stated that Universal Pictures used the score without consulting Greenwood, which violates their agreement. Although Greenwood doesn’t own the copyright, the use of the music was unauthorized. Tony Neiman, the composer for Melania, hasn’t yet responded to the situation.
Fortunately for Anderson and Greenwood, not many people have actually seen the Brett Ratner documentary. While it’s earned a decent $13.35 million globally for a documentary, that’s significantly less than the $75 million Amazon spent to buy and promote it. To put that in perspective, Phantom Thread grossed $52.2 million. And, unlike the characters in that film, the Trumps simply don’t possess the same captivating and complex emotional depth.
