Sam Neill Reacts to Scarlett Johansson’s ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Casting

Sam Neill, known for his role in the original Jurassic Park, has spoken about Scarlett Johansson joining the dinosaur franchise. Neill played Dr. Alan Grant in the 1993 film and returned for Jurassic Park III and the 2022 sequel, Jurassic World Dominion. Johansson’s involvement in the new Rebirth installment signaled a fresh direction for the series, and Neill welcomed her as the lead. He shared that he’s always liked Johansson, and her casting felt special because they previously acted as father and daughter in a project during the 1990s.

Jeff Goldblum expressed his admiration for Scarlett Johansson to EW, praising her as a great fit for the franchise. He playfully suggested he might deserve some credit for her strong performances, recalling that he played her father in the 1998 film The Horse Whisperer when she was just twelve years old. In that movie, he played Robert MacLean, the father of Johansson’s character, Grace, who was injured in a horse-riding accident. While they haven’t acted together since, Goldblum fondly remembers their early work and is happy they’re both now part of the Jurassic series.

It felt like a very close-knit experience on set. I worked with Kristin Scott Thomas and Robert Redford in Montana, playing the father of her character. I’m incredibly proud of my on-screen daughter – she’s strong and capable, and I like to think she gets that from me.
