2 Visually Stunning Spider-Man Movies To Leave Netflix

As a big movie fan, I just found out that The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, are going to be removed from Netflix soon. They weren’t everyone’s favorite when they first came out – opinions were pretty divided – but honestly, they’ve really built a dedicated fanbase over time. I’m glad I got to revisit them, and if you haven’t seen them, you might want to check them out before they’re gone!

The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 are leaving Netflix

The Spider-Man films The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel will no longer be available on Netflix after March 1, 2026, according to What’s on Netflix. These movies were a fresh start for the Spider-Man story after plans for a fourth film in the previous series were cancelled.

Released on July 3, 2012, The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, a high school student who gains superpowers after being bitten by a special spider. He also investigates his parents’ connection to Oscorp Industries. When Peter helps a former colleague of his father, Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), with research, the experiment goes wrong and turns Connors into the villainous Lizard.

I recently saw the sequel, which hit theaters on May 2nd, 2014, and it definitely raised the bar! The story throws in even more bad guys and really digs into some complex emotions. The cast is fantastic, featuring Sally Field as the ever-supportive Aunt May, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, and Denis Leary as Captain Stacy. Plus, Jamie Foxx absolutely shines as the villain Electro, and Dane DeHaan delivers a compelling performance as Harry Osborn. We also get a look at Richard Parker, played by Campbell Scott.

Marc Webb directed both films, which together made over $1.4 billion worldwide. The first movie earned $757 million, and the second brought in $708 million. While the films received generally mixed reviews – scoring 71% and 51% on Rotten Tomatoes – Sony decided to cancel plans for a third movie.

Even though the story received some criticism, Garfield’s acting and his connection with Stone were widely applauded. Stone didn’t get a chance to play Gwen Stacy again, but Garfield did return to the role of Spider-Man in the 2021 hit movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, which earned over $1.92 billion worldwide.

After appearing in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film, fans began online campaigns hoping to revive The Amazing Spider-Man 3. But in a recent interview with GQ, Andrew Garfield confirmed that a third film is definitely not in the works.
