The Mandalorian and Grogu Is Basically Muppet Babies in Space

Muppet movies aren’t just a series of films-they’ve practically become their own style of movie. The formula is simple: put a well-known human actor alongside a bunch of silly, unusual creatures. And that’s exactly what the trailer for *The Mandalorian and Grogu* seems to be going for.

The teaser mainly features puppets, computer-generated imagery, and characters in masks. The only real human face we see is Sigourney Weaver, who’s shown using a tablet in a diner-like setting while Grogu (Baby Yoda) attempts to use the Force to grab her food. Even the Mandalorian, Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, keeps his helmet on throughout the entire 94-second clip.

The film’s preview focuses more on exciting action than on explaining the story. It doesn’t reveal much about the plot, but it *does* feature a lot of strange and unusual creatures. Expect to see stormtroopers, an alien bartender, and several small, quirky characters like Babu Frik, transporting Grogu in a sidecar. Jeremy Allen White voices a new character, Rotto the Hutt, in a fighting arena. There’s also a creature resembling Killer Croc, a monster in a hoodie, and a frightening, one-eyed rat-like being. And, hilariously, one of the little guys yells “Good shot, baby!” when Grogu pokes the rat creature in the eye.

The movie *The Mandalorian and Grogu* was specifically made for IMAX and will come to theaters on May 22, 2026. It’s a spin-off of the *Mandalorian* series on Disney+, and will be the first *Star Wars* film released in cinemas since *The Rise of Skywalker* in 2019. However, this new movie is set earlier in the *Star Wars* timeline, following the events of season three of *The Mandalorian* – meaning Grogu is still a young child.
