Leonardo DiCaprio’s ‘One Battle After Another’ Leads ‘Sinners’ with 14 BAFTA Nominations

Okay, so as a movie fan, it looks like Warner Bros. Discovery is hoping for a big awards season! They’re going to be competing with other studios for the BAFTA awards, and it’s looking tight. That new Leonardo DiCaprio movie – the action comedy thriller – just barely edged out Michael B. Jordan’s vampire horror film, racking up 14 nominations when the BAFTA list dropped. It’s gonna be a good race!

With an impressive 16 Academy Award nominations, Sinners was a strong contender for awards season success. However, DiCaprio’s critically acclaimed film ultimately took the lead with 13 nominations. Hamnet and Marty Supreme followed closely with 11 nominations each, and Frankenstein and Sentimental Value each received 8. Despite being completely overlooked by the Oscars, Wicked: For Good earned 2 nominations.

Two films, One Battle After Another and Sinners, are strong contenders in many of the top award categories. They’re both nominated for Best Film, and their stars, Leonardo DiCaprio and Michael B. Jordan, are competing for Best Actor. Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners) and Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another) are vying for Best Supporting Actress, while Ryan Coogler and Paul Thomas Anderson are up against each other for Best Director. One Battle After Another has a slight advantage, securing nominations for Sean Penn as Best Supporting Actor and Chase Infiniti as Best Actress – a welcome recognition for Infiniti after being overlooked by the Oscars. Sinners didn’t receive any nominations in those two acting categories.

As a film buff, I’m really excited to see both Sinners and One Battle getting recognized! They’re both up for awards in a ton of creative categories – specifically, the scripts (with Sinners nominated for Best Original Screenplay and One Battle for Best Adapted one), plus Casting, the Original Score, Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, and Sound. It’s great to see such well-rounded recognition for both films.
