People who enjoyed the popular Martin Scorsese film will soon be able to discover the real-life events that it’s based on, the story behind the $407 million box office success.
Leonardo DiCaprio plays Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street, a film that follows the stockbroker’s journey from success to ruin, and his wild, excessive lifestyle. The 2013 movie earned five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for DiCaprio, and Best Supporting Actor for Jonah Hill. Now, a documentary series called The Real Wolf of Wall Street is coming to Paramount+.
According to Variety, a new three-part documentary called “The Real Wolf of Wall Street,” produced by Maxine Productions and See It Now Studios for Paramount+, will reveal a more shocking and scandalous account of Jordan Belfort and his colleagues at Stratton Oakmont than what’s been previously reported. Jesse Sweet of Maxine Productions is leading the project as showrunner.
As a film buff, I’m really excited about this new documentary, ‘The Real Wolf of Wall Street’! From what I’ve heard, it’s going to be incredible – they’ve managed to get interviews with people who were right in the middle of everything with Jordan Belfort, and they’ve never spoken publicly before. Plus, there’s a ton of never-before-seen footage and over 15,000 government documents being released. It’s going to shed a lot more light on how Belfort ran his whole ‘pump and dump’ scam – basically, artificially boosting stock prices so he and his brokers could make a fortune while investors lost out.
The new docuseries is based on Jordan Belfort’s 2007 memoir, which was also the basis for Scorsese’s movie, but neither Scorsese nor Belfort are involved in the docuseries. Belfort ran the firm Stratton Oakmont until it collapsed in 1999. He then pleaded guilty to crimes and spent 22 months in prison, after which he cooperated with the FBI. While he had a small role in and consulted on The Wolf of Wall Street, he’s not connected to this new project.
Martin Scorsese’s film The Wolf of Wall Street is considered one of his greatest achievements, adding to his impressive collection of crime stories set throughout American history. The movie features a breakout role for Margot Robbie, alongside established stars like Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Bernthal, and Jon Favreau. Critics generally liked the film, giving it a 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences enjoyed it even more with an 83% score.
A new film called The Real Wolf of Wall Street is currently being made and is expected to be released around 2026. You can watch the original The Wolf of Wall Street on Paramount+.
