Sydney Sweeney might be in legal trouble for Hollywood sign bra stunt

Sydney Sweeney created a buzz for her lingerie brand, Syrn, by hanging bras on the famous Hollywood sign. However, this bold marketing move could potentially lead to legal issues for the Euphoria actress.

The actor shared a video on Monday night showing herself and her team secretly placing bras on the Hollywood sign. The whole thing was staged like an action film, with the group meeting in a van late at night before hiking up to the landmark.

Sydney Sweeney is known for clever publicity moves, and she’s used them effectively throughout her career. For example, rumors about a romance between her and Glen Powell while they filmed ‘Anyone But You’ generated a lot of buzz. The photos and media speculation surrounding their supposed relationship ultimately helped the movie earn $220 million globally on a $25 million budget.

Sweeney’s recent actions involving the Hollywood sign, particularly the bra stunt, could be considered excessive. However, it’s possible this was intentional and part of a larger strategy.

Although Anya Taylor-Joy’s stunt with a bra on the Hollywood Sign was eye-catching, she may face legal trouble for trespassing. According to The Los Angeles Times, she didn’t get permission from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which owns the sign, nor did she notify The Hollywood Sign Trust, the group in charge of maintaining the landmark.

Steve Nissen, head of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, said the actor’s actions were a problem. He explained to the LA Times that anyone wanting to use the Hollywood Sign for business or promotional reasons needs to get permission from the Chamber first.

According to a statement, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce didn’t approve the photoshoot with Sydney Sweeney near the Hollywood Sign, and they weren’t aware it was happening. While the crew had a general filming permit for the area from FilmLA, as reported by the LA Times, it didn’t cover shooting directly at the sign.

According to the LAPD, no trespassing complaint has been made regarding Sydney Sweeney and her film crew so far.

6 people were arrested for a similar stunt in October 2025

While it seems extreme to think Sweeney could get in trouble for putting bras on the Hollywood sign, six people were actually arrested in October 2025 for doing something similar.

The Los Angeles Police Department announced on Instagram that they stopped a group attempting to hang a large banner on the Hollywood Sign, specifically on the first letter ‘O’. While the group’s identities and intentions—including the meaning of the large green and white pill depicted on the banner—remain unknown, they were taken into custody peacefully.

It would be surprising if Sweeney wasn’t penalized for her actions, considering what she did to promote Syrn. However, it’s possible this is all planned with the Chamber of Commerce to generate attention-grabbing news without any legal consequences. Ultimately, the publicity has already worked for Sweeney and her lingerie company, keeping them in the news whether or not she faces legal issues.

Another concern is how fans will react to the actress’s recent actions. She previously faced criticism for an American Eagle ad that simply stated “Sydney Sweeney’s got great jeans.” Some people interpreted this as the company making a comment about her ethnicity, which caused a lot of online upset. It remains to be seen if this new situation will generate a similar level of negative response.
