The second episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms began with a surprisingly intense scene, immediately grabbing viewers’ attention. Many were taken aback by its graphic nature, and the opening quickly sparked conversation among fans, drawing comparisons to other shocking moments in the series.
Fans react as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms goes a step beyond poop scene
In the second episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, called “Hard Salt Beef,” the story includes a scene showing Ser Arlan of Pennytree leaving a cabin to relieve himself outside.
The episode features explicit nudity, showing a character fully unclothed. This continues a trend of shocking opening scenes, following the first episode which included a controversial scene of a character defecating.
Showrunner Ira Parker stated the explicit scene featuring Ser Arlan was a deliberate choice. He explained, “The reason Ser Arlan is depicted that way is because the entire episode is designed to humiliate him.”
Parker explained he wanted the character to have a unique trait, admitting the idea came from the movie Boogie Nights. When questioned about whether actor Danny Webb wore a prosthetic, Parker responded, “I honestly don’t remember.” He jokingly added, “I always assumed he just arrived on set looking that way.”
The clip quickly went viral online. One user shared it with the caption, “The first minute of A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms, episode 2,” along with a reaction. Another user joked, “What it feels like to start episode 2 of A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms.”
One viewer noted the opening to A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms felt different than anticipated, while another commented that the show seemed more lighthearted and possibly aimed at a younger audience, based on the first 30 seconds of the second episode.
Parker pointed out that the new show uses nudity for laughs, unlike Game of Thrones, where those scenes were usually meant to be shocking or serious. George R.R. Martin, the author of the books the show is based on, was also surprised by some of the humor in the first episode, specifically questioning the need for toilet humor, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is currently streaming on HBO Max.
