Fights sometimes happen at theme parks, and Universal Studios is no exception. Recently, an incident occurred at the Florida resort where a family of four is accused of attacking a staff member. The dispute apparently started over parking validation.
A Universal Orlando Team Member Was Allegedly Attacked Over Parking Validation
According to an arrest report obtained by People magazine, an incident occurred on January 19th at the Portofino Bay Hotel in Universal Orlando Resort. A family of four – Huberto Dorto, Laura Alonso Silva, Amanda Brito, and Olivia Nicole Brito – were eating at the hotel’s restaurant and requested parking validation. They had four parking tickets, and while two were approved, the other two could not be.
The employee checking parking tickets said she saw a woman from the family try to validate a ticket herself. She then asked the valet to stop the family from leaving. According to reports, Amanda Brito, one of the women, became angry and started yelling, hitting the employee’s tablet, and then physically attacked her, punching her and pulling her hair. The other three family members allegedly joined in, hitting and kicking the employee, who fell to the ground, until other staff intervened and stopped the attack.
The Family Has A Different Story On The Parking Situation
Olivia Nicole Brito hasn’t been charged with any crime, but three other family members are facing first-degree battery charges. The family claims the staff member started the altercation, allegedly insulting Amanda Brito and then being struck in self-defense. However, the employee’s supervisor stated he witnessed the family assault the staff member and saw them return repeatedly, seemingly trying to get their parking validated.
Regardless of what exactly happened, this situation is a strange and intense reaction over something as minor as parking validation. However, disagreements at theme parks aren’t usually based on logical reasons.
There have been incidents at Disney World where guests have become aggressive – even physically fighting – over line cutting. Unfortunately, some Cast Members have also been attacked by guests attempting to bypass the regular lines.
Regardless of the outcome of the criminal charges, it’s very likely this family will be banned from the Portofino Bay Hotel and potentially all of Universal Orlando Resort. Theme park resorts have often imposed bans in similar situations.
