As a big Star Wars fan, I’m thrilled to see the franchise back in theaters, but there’s a lot happening on the small screen too. Honestly, the Star Wars TV shows have been a bit hit or miss. We started strong with The Mandalorian, which really opened the door for what I think is the best Star Wars show so far: Andor. It’s exciting to see where they’ll go next!
Despite some fan disappointment with shows like The Mandalorian season 3 and The Book of Boba Fett, enthusiasm began to fade, prompting Lucasfilm to shift its plans. This change in direction has resulted in fewer Star Wars TV shows and a focus on upcoming movies.
Despite recent changes, there are still some promising Star Wars TV projects in the works. A good mix of both TV shows and movies could be really positive for the franchise in the future. Here’s a look at the Star Wars TV series, seasons, and Disney+ spin-offs currently planned for release in the years ahead.
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord
The next Star Wars TV show coming out is titled Maul – Shadow Lord. Lucasfilm shared the first trailer in January 2026, confirming it will premiere on Disney+ on April 6, 2026. The show was originally announced at Star Wars Celebration in 2024 and is a spin-off connected to Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Following Star Wars Rebels, The Bad Batch, and the Tales animated series, Maul – Shadow Lord is the fourth significant spin-off from The Clone Wars. The show centers on Maul after the events of Order 66, as he travels the galaxy during the rise of the Empire and trains a new Padawan.
The show will also explain how Maul rose to power as the leader of the Crimson Dawn criminal organization, a story first hinted at in Solo: A Star Wars Story. After years as a popular supporting character in Star Wars television, Maul will finally get his own dedicated storyline. Viewers saw Maul survive the events of The Phantom Menace in The Clone Wars, and his story arc was ultimately completed in Rebels.
Following the conclusion of the main series, Maul – Shadow Lord will bridge the gap and continue the Star Wars story on television. Using a refreshed animation style similar to The Clone Wars, this new series features an engaging story, is scheduled for release in April, and centers around a well-known villain from the franchise.
Ahsoka Season 2
Following the success of the animated series Maul – Shadow Lord, Ahsoka season 2 is now leading the way for live-action Star Wars television. Currently, it’s the only confirmed live-action Star Wars show in production, and is expected to be released sometime in late 2026.
Filming for Ahsoka season 2 started in April 2025 and finished in October. The new season picks up right after the events of season 1, with Ahsoka and her student, Sabine Wren, lost in the far-off galaxy of Peridea. They will be searching for Baylan Skoll, a former Jedi who is trying to awaken a powerful, ancient force.
Ezra Bridger and Hera Syndulla will unite their friends to battle Grand Admiral Thrawn, who plans to bring the Empire back to power. With Ahsoka season 2 having been in editing for several months, fans can expect a trailer and release date announcement sometime in the first six months of 2026.
Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi
Since 2019, Star Wars: Visions has been a regular series on Disney+. A third season is coming in 2025, and in 2026, a spin-off called Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi will be released. This spin-off will be a complete anime series expanding on the story from episode 5 of Visions season 1, which was also called The Ninth Jedi.
This week’s episode featured Kara, a young woman with a connection to the Force and the daughter of a lightsaber maker. Her father was building weapons for the few Jedi still hidden in the galaxy, but it was revealed that five of those Jedi were actually Sith Lords secretly controlling everything. Kara teams up with Juro, Ethan, and Homen to start a new Jedi Order and rescue her father from the Sith.
The third episode of Star Wars: Visions season 3, called The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope, continued the story of Kara. A longer narrative will follow, with Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi expected in 2026 to finish her story. This is a new approach for the Visions series, which usually features standalone stories, as it will tell one continuous, non-canon anime story with recurring characters.

Season 4 of The Mandalorian is planned for the future, though it won’t be the same as the upcoming Star Wars movie focusing on Din Djarin and Grogu. Many fans originally thought the 2026 movie would be a continuation of the show’s fourth season, but creator Jon Favreau clarified in a 2025 interview with Empire that the movie is a separate story.
Jon Favreau has finished writing the scripts for season 4 of The Mandalorian, and production is prepared to begin as soon as the movie The Mandalorian & Grogu is released. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, this news suggests season 4 will eventually happen. It’s just one of several Star Wars TV shows currently in development, but the timing depends on the movie’s launch.
