Adapting video games into TV shows can be tricky, but Arcane truly exceeded all expectations. Based on the popular online game League of Legends, the show—which has run for two seasons—tells the story of two sisters caught in a conflict between wealth and poverty. Since its release five years ago, Arcane has become widely regarded as one of the greatest fantasy series ever made.
Arcane didn’t just entertain – it redefined how people see animated series, which are often overlooked. Plus, the show boasts an incredible soundtrack and a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. Even fantasy fans like Henry Cavill, star of The Witcher, were hooked, saying he ‘could not stop watching’ it.
Arcane Is Perfect For A Weekend Binge
Even though fans of League of Legends have praised Arcane, you don’t need to know the games to enjoy the show. It’s also a surprisingly concise fantasy series – unlike many others – with only nine episodes per season. This makes it perfect for watching all at once over a weekend.
Despite being brief, the show is incredibly emotionally powerful. While Arcane is beautiful to look at and thoroughly entertaining, it’s the well-developed characters and surprising plot twists that truly make it exceptional—a genuine masterpiece for television. The series continues to improve with each viewing, setting a new standard for quality in both video games and TV.
Why Arcane Only Had Two Seasons
I’ve noticed a lot of fantasy shows drag on too long, so I really respect how Arcane knew when to stop. I read that one of the co-creators, Christian Linke, told Ebaster they had a clear story they wanted to tell, and finishing it after season two felt like the natural ending. It’s refreshing to see a show not overstay its welcome!
Linke explained that they always had a specific story they wanted to tell, and they felt it was important to know when to finish it. Despite the potential for more seasons, ending after two allowed Arcane to remain a high-quality show, potentially one of the best of the decade.
The Arcane Franchise Is Not Over
Even though the first season of Arcane has finished, the story isn’t over. The creators are building on that world with new animated series, which will allow for familiar characters to reappear and explore the setting in more detail. According to Marc Merrill, an executive producer on Arcane, these new shows will focus on three different regions.
Although we don’t know exactly how many, there’s potential for a lot more TV shows set in the world of Arcane thanks to its rich detail. The first season’s finale hinted at several spin-offs, and a new version of League of Legends called League Next is scheduled to come out in 2027. This means there’s a good chance we’ll see the beloved characters from Arcane return in the future.
