Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t was a box office success, earning over $240 million worldwide on a $90 million budget. Director Ruben Fleischer, known for Zombieland, clearly tapped into the audience’s appetite for these illusion-based heist movies, and understands the franchise has potential. Interestingly, each Now You See Me film has been directed by a different filmmaker, but Fleischer is set to return to direct a fourth installment.
Director Jon M. Chu recently spoke with MovieWeb about Now You See Me 4. He was asked if the new team of magicians introduced in the third film would be involved in the next movie. Chu explained that the ending of Now You See Me: Now You Don’t provides a strong hint about the direction of the fourth film, and specifically how the new team will be presented will be key to understanding the story.
At the film’s conclusion, all the characters unite on stage, link arms, and declare, ‘We are the horsemen.’ Good night. Initially, there were four horsemen, but the group has expanded to include Lula and now three more young characters, bringing the total to eight. I appreciate that the film simply refers to them as ‘horsemen,’ mirroring the visual style even in wider shots, like the drone pullback. I envision this larger group working together in future films.
‘Now You See Me: Now You Don’t’ Teases the Return of Old Characters For the Next Film

The ending of Now You See Me: Now You Don’t includes two big surprises. First, we learn the group of magicians, known as the Horsemen, has expanded. Second, Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo), who hadn’t been seen throughout the movie, makes a return appearance as a hologram. Despite Ruffalo’s busy schedule preventing him from filming in person, his character warns the team their work isn’t finished and welcomes the new members. This ending successfully builds anticipation for a potential sequel to the heist story.

It will be fascinating to watch Louis Leterrier continue the Now You See Me story with the fourth film, as this is the first time a director has returned for a sequel in the series. The biggest surprise about the success of Now You See Me 3 is that, even after a nearly ten-year gap since the last movie, it still performed very well in theaters. Clearly, audiences are still engaged with these characters and their world, and with Leterrier planning to expand the story and introduce new faces, the Now You See Me universe seems poised for further development.
