A new trailer reveals Jason Momoa will be playing Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl movie. DC Studios head James Gunn shared a short video online showing Momoa stepping out of a trailer labeled ‘Lobo,’ and when asked how he feels about the role, Momoa simply said, ‘Finally.’
Then the video showed some fun moments from Supergirl – Jason Momoa riding a horse and genuinely laughing, and the camera really focused on his happy face. You absolutely have to see it for yourself – it’s below!
Jason Momoa has often expressed his desire to play Lobo, the alien bounty hunter who rides a motorcycle, within the DC Universe. James Gunn apparently shared this vision, quickly casting Momoa as Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl film. Many DC fans are thrilled with this decision.
I’ve always dreamed of playing this role. It’s based on a comic I’m a huge fan of, so I’m definitely feeling the pressure! It was a natural fit, really. It’s a significant character, and we’ve worked hard to accurately portray him – we look just like him, especially his tough, no-nonsense personality. And the motorcycle is amazing!
When asked if he’d be back for future films, Momoa expressed his hope to return, but emphasized that the story primarily centers around the other character, and his role is a smaller one.
Jason Momoa Finally Gets to Play Lobo in Supergirl
Craig Gillespie is directing the upcoming Supergirl movie, written by Ana Nogueira. This film, starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa, will be the second installment in the new DC Universe, following Superman.
When a dangerous new enemy attacks those she loves, Supergirl—also known as Kara Zor-El—teams up with a surprising ally for a massive, galaxy-spanning quest for both revenge and to do what’s right.
Let’s be honest, Supergirl feels a little less polished than her cousin, Superman. A big part of what I expect from the new series is watching her find her footing and really come into her own as a hero. Will the wildcard, Lobo, be an ally in that journey, or just another complication? That’s the question keeping me hooked.
The movie Supergirl will be released in theaters on June 26th. You can currently watch Alcock’s first appearance as Supergirl in Superman on HBO Max.
