I first discovered He-Man and the Masters of the Universe playing with action figures in my brother’s room, where we’d have epic battles against Skeletor. Then came the popular cartoon, and later, the somewhat cheesy 1987 movie with Dolph Lundgren. It was surprising to see the franchise return to theaters decades later with a new, large-scale adaptation, long after its initial popularity.
Travis Knight, the director of “Bumblebee,” brings a fresh take to “Masters of the Universe” with Nicholas Galitzine playing Prince Adam, also known as He-Man. The movie blends fantasy and science fiction, telling the story of Prince Adam, who was sent to present-day Earth as a child after a war destroyed his world. As an adult, he finds the Sword of Power, transforming him into He-Man, and embarks on a journey back home to defeat the villainous Skeletor and save his world. The film also features performances by Idris Elba, Jared Leto, Alison Brie, Camila Mendes, Morena Baccarin, and Kristen Wiig.
The movie “Masters of the Universe” comes out on June 5th. Watch the trailer and tell me if you plan to see it!
