Marvel has revealed a fresh new look for the Scarlet Witch as the new year begins. Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch, has been a popular superhero for over 60 years, and has had many different appearances. Actress Elizabeth Olsen recently gave her version of the character the classic Scarlet Witch tiara, but the character then mysteriously disappeared.
Scarlet Witch is getting a fresh look! Marvel revealed a brand-new costume for the character in the recent Sorcerer Supreme #1 comic, one of their last releases of 2023, hinting at exciting things to come in 2026.

In the latest comic, the hero is getting a makeover! She’s ditching her usual red outfit for a redesigned look that keeps the classic feel, but adds magical details and a cape similar to Doctor Strange’s.

The new costume, created by popular Marvel artist Russell Dauterman, has some interesting magical touches. Instead of her usual crown, the character now has a magical effect floating above her head. She also has magical symbols on her hands and appears to be using magic to hold a necklace similar to the Eye of Agamotto.

Dauterman announced the new look for Wanda on his Instagram, explaining he redesigned her character for her latest role and would also be creating multiple variant covers for the upcoming comic series.

In a recent interview with SFX Magazine, writer Steve Orlando, who is working on Sorcerer Supreme #1, shared his enthusiasm for the new costume design. He described it as “fresh” and particularly liked how it replaced metal jewelry with glowing effects, giving it a more elegant look.
The characters feel incredibly current and visually reflect their personalities. The designer used a lot of rich purple tones, which creates a powerful, confident, and elegant aesthetic, replacing traditional metal jewelry with striking glowing effects. Especially with Wanda, the look isn’t about simple appearances; it’s infused with magic, perfectly capturing her essence beyond the physical.

This isn’t the only costume update the character receives in Orlando’s comic series. In issue #1, she also sports a mystical outfit reminiscent of traditional fortune tellers, complete with a long, flowing skirt and a bright red head wrap.

The superhero doesn’t start the latest story with her new costume; she gets it later on.

Viewers will witness her transformation as she obtains the Eyes of Agamotto and rises to become the Sorcerer Supreme.

This costume is a big change from the Scarlet Witch’s familiar look in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Elizabeth Olsen’s portrayal of the character felt more real and grounded, with hints of magic woven throughout.

Okay, so the first issue of Sorcerer Supreme finally dropped on December 31st, 2025, and it’s a really interesting take! It centers around Scarlet Witch stepping into the role of Sorcerer Supreme – she’s gotten her hands on the Cloak of Levitation and the Eye of Agamotto, which is awesome. But here’s the thing: Wanda isn’t planning on playing by the book. She’s ready to totally rewrite the rules set by the Vishanti, even if it means going against centuries of magical tradition. It’s setting up to be a wild ride!
Will Scarlet Witch Get a Costume Upgrade in the MCU?
Okay, so everyone’s still talking about the big changes to Scarlet Witch in the comics, and honestly, it’s got me wondering what Marvel Studios has up their sleeve for the character in future movies and shows. The comic redesign is a huge conversation, but I’m really curious to see how it impacts, or doesn’t impact, her on-screen journey.
Wanda’s latest appearance is a stunning blend of reality and magic, unlike anything we’ve seen before. But fans are wondering if Elizabeth Olsen’s version of the character will ever receive a comparable transformation in a movie.
Currently, Wanda Olsen is considered ‘dead’ – or at least missing – following the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Marvel hasn’t confirmed if she’ll return, but there are hints that she might.
I wouldn’t be shocked if she returned looking completely different! Since she’s currently gone, and if they do bring her back, it would be amazing to see her have a real transformation – kind of like a ‘Gandalf the White’ moment, with a powerful new look inspired by her Sorcerer Supreme storyline. It just feels right for the character if she were resurrected.
Right now, fans will have to settle for this new comic book look for Scarlet Witch while Marvel Studios figures out the details for future Wanda-focused projects over the next few months, or possibly even longer.
