Disney Confirms Re-Release of One of Disney+’s Biggest Cancelled TV Shows

After a long wait, Disney+ is bringing back one of its previously removed TV shows. When the streaming service first launched, Disney released several original shows to attract viewers. While some were hits, others didn’t perform as well, leading Disney+ to reassess its initial offerings and ultimately remove a number of original programs a few years later.

One streaming show that didn’t last was Turner & Hooch. It continued the story of the popular Tom Hanks movie about a U.S. Marshal and his canine partner, this time investigating the death of the marshal’s father. The series premiered on Disney+ in June 2021 as part of the service’s initial offerings, but was taken down in May 2023.

After being unavailable for almost three years, the streaming series Turner & Hooch, starring Josh Peck, is back! As of January 1st, it’s now available on The Wonder Project, a streaming platform focused on faith and family content (according to Josh Shepard on X). You can watch all 12 episodes on the Amazon Prime Video add-on channel.

This is the first time the show has been available for streaming after it was removed from Disney+. The Wonder Project also previously streamed The Mysterious Benedict Society, another series Disney+ cancelled as part of a large content removal in May 2023.

The release of Turner & Hooch could mean Disney and a faith-based streaming service are working together, potentially giving other projects previously planned for Disney+ a new platform.

The show Turner & Hooch features Josh Peck, known from Drake & Josh, as Scott Turner Jr., a meticulous U.S. Marshal who learns to loosen up when he unexpectedly inherits a mischievous French Mastiff. It’s one of several beloved shows and movies from Disney’s past that have been revived for the Disney+ streaming service, alongside titles like Willow and The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.

Turner & Hooch Gets Its Day in the Sun

Over the past six months, The Wonder Project has been bringing back Disney+ shows that were previously canceled. This faith-based streaming service has successfully revived two series that many thought would never be available to watch again.

When Turner & Hooch disappeared from Disney+’s streaming service in May 2023, many people thought the show was canceled. Disney was removing several of its original programs, and it seemed like this was one of them.

The show is available again now, and it might finally get the recognition it deserves. While Turner & Hooch wasn’t a hit with critics when it first came out – it currently has a 51% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – the bigger issue was simply being able to watch it. Before now, there was no legal way to view the series starring Josh Peck.

Today’s streaming services make it easy for companies to remove shows and movies, creating a serious problem for preserving media. When a platform like a streamer takes something like Turner & Hooch down, it essentially erases the work of everyone involved, leaving them with no lasting record of their efforts.

Now, at least the series, no matter how you feel about it, has a place to hang its hat.
