Cookie Jam has another weekly event called Buzzwords, and we’re back to help you find the answers! We’ve already tackled clues like “Edible waterfowl,” “A small unit of weight,” and “A mollusk known for making pearls.” This week’s challenge is “Pastry also known as elephant ear.” Have you come across this one before?
Answer to “Pastry also known as elephant ear” in Cookie Jam
I’ll admit, I’d never heard anyone call that pastry an “elephant ear” before. Of course, nobody knows everything! But after looking it up, I discovered the origin of the name, and it actually makes a lot of sense – it’s a pretty fitting nickname for a treat I’m familiar with.
- Pastry also known as elephant ear – Palmier.
Okay, so I recently learned about this pastry called a ‘palmier,’ and yeah, the name totally sounds French – because it *is* French! Apparently, ‘palmier’ means ‘palm’ because of its shape – it looks like a little palm leaf. They even call it ‘palm heart’ or, get this, ‘pig’s ear’! Honestly, all those names make sense when you see it. It’s made with a similar dough to croissants, but without the yeast. They roll it in sugar before baking, and it’s just a really simple, tasty snack I enjoy now and then.
We’ve finished four questions on the Palmier, leaving sixteen more to solve. Now, the next clue is: “When the sun rises, this appears.” It’s a tricky one! Best of luck, and I’ll see you all shortly.
