Andrew Lincoln’s latest series, Coldwater, hasn’t received the same positive reviews as The Walking Dead. Lincoln is famous for his role as Rick Grimes, a central character throughout most of The Walking Dead, and he recently returned to the role in the show’s spinoff, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the show Coldwater received a 73% rating from critics and a 64% audience score. Though both are considered positive ratings, they are lower than those for The Walking Dead and The Ones Who Live.
Both The Walking Dead and its spin-off, The Ones Who Live, have been generally well-received. Critics give The Walking Dead a 79% rating and audiences a 78%, while The Ones Who Live scored higher with critics at 88%, though audiences rated it a bit lower at 76%.
| Show | Tomatometer Score | Popcornmeter Score |
|---|---|---|
| The Walking Dead | 79% | 78% |
| The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live | 88% | 76% |
| Coldwater | 73% | 64% |
In the film Coldwater, Lincoln portrays John, a man who relocates his family to a small Scottish village after being unable to intervene in a violent event in London. The village is led by Tommy (Ewen Bremner), who appears to be a genuinely good person – a loving husband, father, and neighbor.
Tommy develops a friendship with John, but John’s wife, Fiona (played by Indira Varma of Game of Thrones), doesn’t trust him. This growing tension eventually uncovers hidden truths.
I’m excited that Coldwater is finally coming to Paramount+! I know it originally aired in the UK on ITVX, but now we’ll get to watch one episode each week, starting January 9th, and it’ll keep going all the way through February. I can’t wait to follow the story as it unfolds!

Since The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live was designed as a limited series, there aren’t any current plans for a second season, leaving Rick Grimes’s future uncertain. However, with several other Walking Dead shows continuing, many fans believe Andrew Lincoln might reprise the role of Rick at some point.
Season 4 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will be the show’s last. This means it could be the first time fans see Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Rick Grimes together since their separation in November 2018. There’s also a chance Rick will reconnect with Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in The Walking Dead: Dead City.
Although it’s unknown if Andrew Lincoln will return to The Walking Dead universe, fans can now watch him in Coldwater on Paramount+. While Coldwater hasn’t reached the same popularity as The Walking Dead, it has positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and is a shorter watch with only six episodes.
